COVID-19 / Coronavirus Pandemic

That may be so. I thought natural immunity lasted longer, but I never read anything definitive about it.

i've seen articles saying that vaccines offer broader protection --
Now, a new NIH-supported study shows that the answer to this question will vary based on how an individual’s antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 were generated: over the course of a naturally acquired infection or from a COVID-19 vaccine. The new evidence shows that protective antibodies generated in response to an mRNA vaccine will target a broader range of SARS-CoV-2 variants carrying “single letter” changes in a key portion of their spike protein compared to antibodies acquired from an infection.

These results add to evidence that people with acquired immunity may have differing levels of protection to emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants. More importantly, the data provide further documentation that those who’ve had and recovered from a COVID-19 infection still stand to benefit from getting vaccinated.

haven't looked up the duration of immunity, yet, though.

Wearing a mask is going to be the new Shopping Trolley test, isn't it?
It is not.

Returning a shopping trolley is obviously the right thing to do. People know that without needing someone else to tell them because it is obvious that having a bunch of unreturned trolleys littering around is annoying. Thus is tests for your ability to self-govern because it tests if you would do the right thing without anyone needing to tell you to do it.

Wearing a mask is not anyhing like that. It is not obvious whether it is beneficial; people who think it is think so because they have been repeatedly told so by authority. They do not wear their mask because of their own judgement on the matter, they wear their mask because others decided for them that they ought to do it and kept repeating that decision to them. Thus they are not governing themselves, they are being governed by someone else. Mask wearing is therefore not an indication that you can self-govern, it is an indication that you can be easily governed by someone else.

Mask wearing is the new toilet paper hoarding test. Toilet paper hoarders hoarded toilet paper during the toilet paper hoarding hooplah a few months back because the news indicated that they ought to do so, not because of their own judgement. Thus anyone hoarding toilet paper proved that he was easy for other people to govern.

No responsible news service ever told people to hoard toilet paper. They did report that others were doing it, which I guess could be construed as an instruction that you should get some yourself if you can.

In the UK they're dropping the mask mandate from Monday, so it then becomes more of a personal choice. Although plenty of places are saying you won't get entry without one.

Ah yes because even before having an engineering degree, I “needed” to be “told by authority” why having a HEPA filter (with pre-filter) in the vacuum cleaner or air con system was a good idea, or why miners and carpenters and spray painters should wear masks with specific protection ratings, or why surgeons should wear masks during surgery, or why exposure duration means that the masks/filters have to be changed with a particular frequency, or why adventurers use Lifestraws etc. for filtering unclean water into something the body can accept, or why smoking is bad for you, or why there is such an increase in respiratory disease following volcanic eruptions, or why so many people died in 1952 from the Great Smog of London, or why it’s not a good idea to sit in your sealed garage with the car engine running.

It’s not because of “authority”; it’s physics and biochemistry.

As I said, they encouraged it. They were fearmongering with CoViD-19, greatly overestating how dangerous it is, and people believed it and responded accordingly.

Your analogies break down on the fact that in the case of masks the "authority" is just the news which lacks evidence and instead convinces people through repetition, not through evidence. If people hear something frequently enough then instinctively they will believe it and think that it is a big deal. This is why people fear CoViD-19 and why they keep repeating it on the news. Toilet paper hoarding and mask wearing is not based on physics and biology, it is based on the propaganda that gets repeated multiple times every day on the news.

Ah there’s no evidence? What about the peer-reviewed live test subject studies carried out by Japanese (and other) universities? The modelling? The decades of epidemiologists, biochemists and other scientists coming to understand how respiratory (the clue’s in the name FFS!) virii are transmitted?

It's funny how cures tested, validated and promoted by doctors in hospitals end up in mainstream medias (remember the fake Lancet study):

It's weird that the fenomenon of toiletpaper hoarding was also in Netherlands, so I suspect, all over the world. I find this fascinating how with a little bit of social engineering you can make the masses do something.
So you have news about a possible pandemic. you don't know how bad it is going to be. People will panic, so you steer them to hoard useless toilet paper; satisfying their need to hoard. While the important stuff, food, medicines, stays on the shelves, available to anyone who needs it. brilliant.

Protesting for the rest of Europe. The moment a bad law is being discussed for Europe, it's always the French that stand up massively for their human rights. It's a cultural thing.

People started hording toilet paper because they were scared other people depleting stock. It was not direct fear of covid (which may or may not be real) but of other people reacting to the news (which was real - it was broadcast). So it's a legitimate fear (itchy bums).

It is not entirely unimaginable that the propaganda machine orchestrated the toilet paper crunch. After all, the idea of a toiletpaperless world is one of the most horrifying imaginable, esp for clean-freaks like us.

We meet under the bridge at 1600 to discuss this existential matter. I bring the Beaujolais.

Decades of epidemiology about a virus that exists no longer than 1.5 years?

That is very controversial. However, only one side gets screen time on the MSM and is thus heavily over-represented in the minds of the general public. In the Netherlands we have a great example of the censorship, the political party of Viruswaarheid (which was co-founded by a scientist in a relevant field) had their name removed on the voting list that people received in the mail. There was a huge blank where their name ought to be. No big surprise to me, because I know that voting is likely corrupt anyway, but I was still a little surprised about how up-front they were about it. Anyway, that is what happens to those scientists, they get censored out.

Let me stop you right there and let's do a thought experiment.
Put on a t-shirt, and I will take your arm, and smear cow dung on it, like I was a mom putting on sunscreen on her child.
Then, I will give you a roll of toilet paper to clean your arm. You can't use water, or soap, just toilet paper. Then tell me if the arm still reeks if you smell it (it will).
Now, tell me again you are a "clean-freak" and that you, at least, got a japanese style toilet that cleans you with water. Because if you don't... well
