Hi all,

I think I've seen this requested elsewhere, but I can't find it on the search so I thought I'd put in a request. Does anyone fancy writing a Vic 20 emulator? We've got our C64 and Plus4 emulators sorted, but not one for the good old Vic!

I've been playing on my machine at home recently and been surprised at how good some of the games are and how well they'd translate onto a GP32 (including one of the best versions of Pacman ever - Jelly Monsters!)... there's been some great homebrew stuff in the recent years too.

If I had the programming skills I would do it myself, but sadly it's well beyond me! If anyone is working on one, do let me know if you need a beta tester...! In the meantime I'll have to make to with the "15 in 1" cart for the PC Engine emu (which has 15 Vic 20 games built in, but they all appear off center... bah!)

Ahhh... I remember the Vic-20 having the best version of Omega Race.

Aren't the vic 20 games compatible with the C64? I know I used to be able to take my favorite copy of Gorf and stick it into my buddies C64.

Have you tried Frodo?

They aren't compatible without some fairly extensive modifications. Some Vic games did get released with the C64 version (I have a copy of Arcadia at home that does this) so that may explain the Gorf situation. It is true that many bits from a C64 emulator could be re-used for a Vic one though.

(Oh an Omega Race is in the PC Engine 15-in-1 cart, but its cut off from the top...arrrgh!)

Pfeh. The ColecoVision had the best version. The sound made the game.

Speaking of Jeff Minter, I can't wait until Unity comes out. I've been on YakYak.org like crazy reading the posts.

I've tried the VIC-20 image on Magic Engine a few years ago.

Will check and see it it's still around.

Email me at hwrdATrocketmailDOTcom if you want...

I have seen NES games 99-in-1 carts for the PC engine for sale in Hong Kong, but then the PC-Engine and nes share some hardware.

I wonder if they work in GPengine.

a bit off topic but does anyone know of websites in hong kong that sell weird consoles like hacked Snes, Nes etc or just HK versions of the ones we have in the rest of the world.

google doesnt always help when searching

I've tried some times ago a nes compilation with gpengine and mario was working perfectly
it was just a little too fast if i remember well

it was not a 99 in 1 just a 5 or 10 in 1 compilation

It is true, but don't let it put you off writing a Vic 20 Emu! ;)

It's by the same pirate group as the NES clone-with-games on PCEngine (Run Byte IIRC). It's far from perfect though, as the sound is a bit iffy and, as I mentioned, part of the screen is chopped off (making Omega Race unplayable).

Not to mention they forgot to include some major Vic classics - eg Avenger!

That was the first thing I ever played on my GP32!

I believe the PC engine had a hu card out with c64 games on it, ports or maybe through some sort of emulation. Same sort of hu card exist with nes games on it. Ports or maybe emulated.
