Rip Nintendo

It's indeed not the smallest portable console.

Edit: images removed because my boss was wondering what the folder PSP was on our server :(

PSP looks slick, but god knows I'll just scratch that beautiful little screen...

From what I read, the Sony spokesman danced around stating specific battery life times. To quote from ign:
"So, what is the battery life going to be on PlayStation Portable? It will be on par with traditional handheld systems, or approximately 10 hours. It is comparable to an ATC [ATRAC] portable music player, or approximately 8 hours. Or, it will be comparable to portable DVD players, which, in many cases, is about 2 and a half hours.

So I read that as: 8 hours music /2.5 hours video & 10 hours gameplay.
Trouble is, that doesn't really add up. I think he means if you compare the graphical abilities of other game consoles then it will match up (I.E. A simple bustamove game or something on PSP will last 10 hours).

No way that GT4 will run (with music on) for 10 hours when an mp3 will drain out quicker.

Also the psp is gonna be pretty power demanding with it's 333MHz cpu and other such luxuries. Where the DS has a 33 + 66 Mhz.

:D Your best post yet!

2.5 hours video? I presume they won't be bringing out Lord of the Rings for it then...

SO you telling me altogether the ds will have 99mhz?

Christ the gp32 can almost over clock to twice that!! Who knows maybe more?
Also the psp only has 333mhz processer?
I am not going to pay $250 or god knows how many £££'s it will be for that!!
Someone do the ram mod to the gp32 and some how install a 600mhz Processer (I'll rip it out this pc for you! :D ) then Hire ubi soft to make spliter cell 3 for it!

No, I'm afraid you fail to understand.

The DS uses less MHZ to get more life out of the batteries. It makes up for this by using Graphics chips and hardware that the GP doesn't have.

Try not to worry about specifications until you have seen and understand the whole picture. Just look at the games to see what it can do - looks above N64 quality to me.

For an example: The GBA uses 16MHZ (or 33 MHZ - I can't remember) yet by using the graphic hardware, coders have still managed to push a Good speed SNES emu out of it.

As for the price argument.

Snes VS PSX, PSX costed a ton more.

Dreamcast and N64 VS PS2.

PS2 costed 300, the rest costed less, Guess who won?

I'm gonna pick up the DS after a price drop or if it launchs with the new mario title, but I'm gonna look into PSP first.

Portable perfect dark
I thought Microsoft owned Rare now? Or are you implying being able to run N64 games on it? That would be cool but unless it's emulation you'd probably still not see Perfect Dark.

EDIT

When I said N64 games I meant re-released ala Snes>GBA.

The PSP only has one speaker... forget it. Same shitty sound quality like on the GBA.
That isnt a speaker. the system has two small holes for stereo sound.. The thing you think is a speaker is the analog joystick.

Yes, but Rare still makes games for the GBA, so why wouldn't they make them for the DS?

The PSP cannot do anything another Handheld can. The DS is the most exciting thing in games; ever. Portable Animal Crossing is a dream come true.
Exactly. PSP will just sit there flaunting its higher specs and playing ports of crappy ps2 games, which will look exactly the same as the DS games because you can't really tell the difference on a small screen, the only difference will people playing DS's will be having fun.

Too bad the fun will probably come in the same portions as the N64 and GC, about one game every three months :p

Up until now I really like to see what the two screens can do, not just using them as a map or status screen. Until the true value of the double screen shines through the DS will just be a cheaper (in all ways) PSP.
