Gigas-engine 0.7.0

.mp would be the best! reason I hadn't mentioned that was because I had no idea it'd even be possible!

another thing: my town is finished, I've started working on inhabitants :p however, if they "wander" around at SPEED=1, they're still going WAY to fast. Is there any way to make them walk slower?
i always thought they went really slow on 1, but i've added a new speed for you anyway called "slowest" which is even slower than 1 speed ;) ideal for turtles and old people :D

thanks for the suggestion.

Personally, I'd like to see mods in it, since its easy (or relatively so) to convert .midis into them, and there are a lot of mod libraries. And they're small compared to MP3s, so they wouldn't boost the size of an RPG by too much.

uhuh, i badly need a new GP32 - and while i highly doubt i'll win (argued with craig, the runner of the comp in the past) i'll give it a shot, new release will be done before the 10th anyway.

i think Craig will be as unbiased as possible, especially since there are 3 other judges arent there?

I think GIGAS deserves to win, especially if u look at how much its developed

It should win. everything else is one game....

But gigas is many!

gigas = best thing that's hit my gp32 so far, not kidding :)

suggestion
ranged weapon support
and new idea for weapons and attack
have one charset per char
in that set have 3 electable attack stances
and then have each item add to that stance
so you can have differant weapons
ill try to explain easier...

I have guy ( bob for now )
and bob has a file called char1atck.raw ( or wahtever you want )
and in that, there is 12 rows for char attacks, same as now, but 3x larger
and you could select one of those for each item you make, you assign a char attack value ) 1 2 or 3
and the char attack would be just say his hand moving
but each item has only the weapon in it, but its unique to that item only
so you have a set with the hand moving and one with the weapon only moving
guy in one, weapon in other, when item equiped plays both and they overlap
looking like a guy using the weapon
???
understand

you could have a way around that I think, 3 attacksets like you would do normally, and have the item equipping throw a switch function that changes your attack set...

would be simpler imho :)

the thing is: you can't have a spear stab and a sword swing by doing the same movement with your body. Plus, it seems superhard to have them overlap properly as well :)

Well, let me just say Ive been following this project for a while, and this is the most excited about a GP32 release of anything in a long time!!

Now some thoughts...

-So we will be able to insert/use our own grafix... Will this process be easy? Can you go a little bit more in depth about how to do this?

-What kind of musics are supported thus far? Planned? (mp3, wavs?

- You say cutscenes are incorporated? You mean just ingame cutscenes, or FMV cutscenes, or both? (i presume just the first)

-Will Multiple Characters (are they supported even?) follow behind, or be absorbed into you? (like all the old rpg games)

- Weather options?

-Side quests/mini games?

I know thats a lot, but look how far youve come already, Pirotic? Also, just wondering, are you the only one workning on Gigas?

Anyway, good luck, and keep up the great work!

Hiya, thanks for the suggestion.

i did orginally consider that method, but i thought it may be a bit too daunting for some and put people off creating original attacks, lining stuff up and removing parts which go 'behind' the character would be very difficult for people who dont have Photoshop.

i'd of liked to of put an attack animation along with the entity animation (in one graphic) - but then, what if i want an entity which looks the same but has a slightly different attack? it'd mean having to have the same entity graphic twice just because i wanted a different attack - so i stuck with the current system, its easier and takes up less ram in the long run.

you can always just copy and edit an existing attack if you want to change the weapon :)

im currently writing a proper .PDF beginners guide which explains how to use every feature in gigas with a nice step-by-step picture guide, so excuse if i answer your questions rather quickly as the pdf guide will be out v.soon and i dont want to repeat myself :)

1.) you can already use your own graphics

2.) mp3, ogg, wav, midi and spc audio is planned (in an ideal world)

3.) in-game-cutscenes, FMV is beyond most of us - you can however show full screen pictures during a cutscene (with duration and transition effects) so you can do a "slide show" or a v.short animated clip.

4.) Multiple Characters follow behind you, a very basic "body guard" AI is
in the current version who will follow you around and fight alongside you - he will
however vanish when you change map.. proper Allies are planned and will stay by your side even when you change a map and will be configurable with equipment just like the main character (and lvl up etc)

5.) Weather options are already implemented, i've made something called "Screen Effects" which allows you to put an animation over the top of the screen, such as a rain, snow, cloud animation - sadly the editor didnt make it into the current release so while you can use my pre-made ones, you cannot make your own until 0.7.0.

6.) Mini-games are planned, but work will begin on them once the engine is pretty much complete - ideally i'd like gambling, slot machines, card battling (and collecting).

And yup, Gigas is a one man effort (that'd be me)

Hope that answers your questions

Yes. read the FAQ in the download file, it's really really easy to do!

-What kind of musics are supported thus far? Planned? (mp3, wavs?

no music/sound is supported right now :) wav will be implemented, mp3/ogg might be (if I'm not mistaken)

- You say cutscenes are incorporated? You mean just ingame cutscenes, or FMV cutscenes, or both? (i presume just the first)

the first, I believe, but the FMV will be fixable with still images that succeed

-Will Multiple Characters (are they supported even?) follow behind, or be absorbed into you? (like all the old rpg games)

no clue!

- Weather options?

there is rain right now, and some spiffy lense effect :)

-Side quests/mini games?

eh? :p

congrats to you Pirotic, i am throughly throughly impressed!! How are you building the whole Gigas engine? Official SDK, Mirkos? Building a builder with a builder! (quite the task id say!)

I cant wait for that PDF! Take all the time in the world. Id love to donate soon, maybe in a week or two, but I dont have paypal. Maybe you could drop me your address or something sometime, id be glad to send $15 your way!

Keep up the great work!

Oh, and for mini games, (just a suggestion, like the topic says...) How about a racing/sidescroll mode? In fact, I was wondering if any sidescroll options were being implemented, ala Zelda 2? and will there be a jump option/command for the maps, ala mario rpg?

Thanks!

well, I think that that 15dollars very much so could get you chatboard support if ya donate it
He will put the chatboard support in if he gets one...
