that looks really damn cool. I'd like to see some more ports of N64 games though, there's no reason why the entire library of good games for the N64 couldn't be ported over.

Jesus christ! Now I actually regret having bricked my DS!!! I need to open that bugger up and reflash the eeprom... damn!

Agreed. I think they're crazy for not having some kind of classic N64 series of titles for the DS, which could be nearly direct ports to the system (adapt the controls, of course, and make some minor use of the second screen). I know I'd buy them.

What, you mean like the NES ports for the GBA that FAILED?

And I saw Zelda DS a year or two back on Lik-Sang when I was considering buying a DS at Christmas from the USA and thought "Wow, I'd love the play that." And now it's coming this year! Hooray!

They sold half decent, but didnt really offer anything extra. A game like Mario64 DS has a whole lot of extras bundled into it, so it still plays pretty fresh even if you played the original.
I think the main reason they havnt done this, is that its not as easy as the Classic NES series. N64 games cant be emulated on the DS, they have to be completely remade like Mario64 DS was. Plus the controls need to be adapted from analog to touchscreen or d-pad. It would take almost as much time as making a new game from scratch, which is what they are doing.

I mean come on, would you guys prefer to play Ocarina of Time if it meant Nintendo didnt have the time/resources to make this new Zelda game? N64 "best of" isnt going to happen on the DS, but we're all gonna be able to get our fill of the classics at the end of the year when the Revolution comes out. We can then have our classics emulated, while still letting Nintendo work on some new stuff.

Similar, but no. The NES ports were technology-wise a generation behind what the GBA was capable of, and so people (or at least me) thought it was kind of silly to pay that much for a game that so technically dated.

Now the DS is pretty much on par with the N64, so it would be more like all the SNES games that got rereleased on the GBA. And those sold rather well. ;)

Wow, that game oozes elements of Link to the Past, which is high up on the list of the best games of all time.
Off-topic, but I finally beat that a couple of days ago on GBA. And it only took me what, 15 years since the SNES original was released?

The SNES ports on the GBA did good. The Mario Advance Series is one of the topsellers on the system and Mario 64 is also one of the topsellers on the DS. The NES Classics had other problems.

I beat that game back in middle-school, but i will admit it took me a few days to figure out how to actually hurt the guy :D

Actually, I didn't find the game difficult, even when I was first playing it. I just got about halfway through the dark world and got bored every time. The game was a bit too long and dragged on a bit, IMO.

I've never been very fond of Link to the Past. I've found that it's so easy to get stuck (as in, trapped in an area) or lost (either not being able to find an area or missing a key item). I've never actually finished that Zelda; I've gotten pretty far several times, but it just doesn't pull me in like the other top-down Zeldas.

Minish Cap is my favorite top-down Zelda, and I was always worried that, with the decline of the GBA, 2D top-down Zeldas would become a thing of the past. So I'm thrilled Nintendo will keep the top-down traditional Zelda going on the DS.

It looks good but it doesn't have the same "wow that's damn impressive" feeling that Golden Sun had on the GBA. It doesn't reek of next gen handheld in the same way that some of the early GBA titles did. I'm still impressed by the battles in Golden Sun now.

Don't get me wrong the DS is a nice bit of kit but when are we going to see an RPG that pushes it to the limit.

Still looks pretty impressive to me, apparantly it'll have some good use of the touchscreen too (drawing on the map? Changing screens to edit stuff? Sounds good to me)
And the graphics look good enough for me too, really looking forward to this. :)
