What dekstop will YOU use on Pandora

I voted for Etoile because it's the name of my home town.

In reality, I have no clue what I'll use and will be trying several to get the best balance of performance and usability. The only stuff that I have used are the included with Ubuntu, OpenSuse, and various other live CDs.

I don't understand all that Linux mumbo jumbo..

All I know is that I want to use the current XFCE build OP have set up.
Nope. I'm not just saying that because OP have made it.
It's a nice, simple yet good OS.

I plan on using the mini menu's, too.

Beryl? Srsly?
  • Does the Beryl project even exist any more?
  • There's no chance in hell that Beryl can be ported to the Pandora.
No, Beryl and Compiz merged into Compiz Fusion.
They're going to release a version called Compiz Fusion Lite that has sucralose instead of sugar, and appeals to people who are into that.
(Sorry, Fusion sounds like the name of a beverage)

Edit: So I'm going to try KDE, LXDE, and whatever it ships with. Which ever works the best and isn't terrible, I'll use.

There's also that Qt desktop I was looking at when I wanted something that used Qt but wasn't as insane as KDE. (KDE has too many goddamn buttons for shit I never need) But I think it's fallen out of development, and I couldn't make it run.

Yay, multiple choice!
I'll sleep around a bit looking for my true love, and if I don't find her I'll just go back to the defaults.
I guess I'll test with my Fluxbox desktop setup, but I suspect it isn't really as suited for a handheld as some of the other options will be. Good chance to experiment.

thank you guys for warm welcome :-D

I added minimenu. Anything else, that I should add? But ... oops 15 options are already used. I cannot add - I would have to delete something...

Something like this:

I think the people who plan on running KDE are going to be quite sad with the performance within those memory confines. I got it working on the PS3, but quickly switched back to LXDE and XFCE.

(I do use KDE as the desktop on my main, more powerful desktop, though)

I will not spend time changing or trying anything different. I'll just use the default."
... unless some "after-market" desktop comes out with serious advantages over the default. I will start by checking out the default, and see if it works nice enough for me. If it's clunky, uncomfortable or unsuitable for left-handers (hey anything is possible in this day and age), then I'll try whatever's out there until I find something southpaw-compatible, less clunky or more comfortable.

One is always more comfortable with what they know.

I'll use what is given for now. The GUI windows side of things doesn't float my boat at this time. I'll just want something functional and fast.
I'll play WITH the Pandora later, if I ever get board playing ON the Pandora.

When in game mode I'll want a finger friendly menu (pmenu et al) and then when I want it to be a real computer, the defaults will do fine.

I`ll definitely be using MiniMenu first and foremost, Mainly as it looks great
and most probably functions as good as it looks, And it`s got to be the quickest
route to where everyone heading, Your programs/games etc, Short of running from
a bash prompt.

XFCE would be next up, But only if i really need a full desktop to do what i am
wanting to do.

Composing on the Pandora, Meh!, Not on your nelly.

Trooper

Minimenu for me. I've been working on a skin for my own use (based off of the version of DaveC's "perty" that's in the download skeezix put up), using graphics from Mega Man 2 on the NES, which I'll probably use with it, if I've gotten it right. (Knowing my luck, I've probably done something totally wrong and it will fail monumentally. )

Mostly being difficult, since you had so many. I always thought StumpWM was cool, but I definitely wouldn't use it on the Pandora.
