That's sad news. GamePark is the roots of this community.

Companies come and go..
I wonder, is there any kind of news about a GP2X successor? (like, GP3X or something?) Are they even planning one?

The systems only been around for like 2yrs. Lets ask questions like than when its been out for another year or at very least. Giving the gp2x atleast a 4yr life before its successor was released.

EDIT: Fixed a typo or two, any more can stay put

ummm no thats kinda wrong. It is too early to think about the gp3x so much but a handhelds dont have double the life span of a home system. The gameboy color (i consider this a totally different system then the gameboy pocket because it could use different cartridges) came out in the last quarter of 1998 and the gameboy advance came out in the second quarter of 2001. Also the gameboy advance sp came out in 2003 and the nintendo ds came out in 2005. These may be different versions arguably but they are still very different. They came out with only 2-3 year gaps inbetween, Not 4-5. According to your logic because they have double the lifespan of home consoles then a home console would be released every year. YIPEE Playstation 5 in fourth quarter 08!!!!!

I guess it may be a different case for the smaller companies like GPH (or GP) that they can't release a new console at the same rate Nintendo does (though I am very angry at Nintendo for releasing a crap hardware and then releasing a "fixed" version... Example: Gameboy Advance... augh!) ... But still I think the GP2X is a little outdated in its hardware as a developer's console. Nintendo consoles have games built specific for their hardware while the GP2X is mostly for emulation. That's at least how I see it.

GP32 had a four year lifespan from Nov 2001 to (I think) Nov 2005 when the first GP2X rolled out (actually, the last GP32s were manufactured that Summer, but there were still many to be sold, so I'd say life of 4 years). Hopefully the 2x would last that long, but I really doubt it.

Still, I don't see myself being too quick to move to the next platform this time. The GP2X (and PSP) does most of what I want, and it'll only get better before the GP2X is retired.

This is a wonderful topic to start spamming about GP3X! ;)
I don't think it's spam when it's a constructive conversation. ;)

And would you rather create yet another GP3X thread or keep it contained here?

You seem to be forgetting that the original gameboy came out in 1989 and wasn't changed until the gameboy color in 1998, were talking 9 years here. While the dual screen is out, the advance is still being made and still being supported, so it's lifespan hasn't really been defined.

Even though this is a dead thread, I kind of appreciate you resurrecting it... I would really like to express my opinion that it really sucks that GP became bankrupt. I would have loved to have an XGP mini. I love my GBmicro and something that size would have been perfect for my gaming needs. :(

They were just repackaged gameboys, reflecting new manufacturing technology. After all, they played the same games and there were no games that were gameboy pocket only versions. Granted the true greyscale screen was easier on the eyes, and the easier on the pocketbook due to lowering the power needs. But it's kinda like saying that the psone is different console the the PS1. They look different, but they are the same game machine. And also, like I said, the GB Advance is still going strong, so it can't be considered dead yet.
