I have an xbox which I would like the following done to:

Laptop HDD put in to replace the original HDD (unless the original HDD is shock proof)

Made to boot directly to the freeware media player.

This is to go in a car/people carrier.

Is there anyone on the board who can give me a hand doing this? I will pay or give you free stuff.

Thanks,

Craig

Well that wouldn't be too difficult. Laptop HDDs are compatible with a regular IDE interface with a special adaptor are they not? And getting it to boot the media player as default can be done just by copying XBMP to C:\ and renaming the executable to "xboxdash.xbe".

Edit: http://www.bay-wolf.com/hddadapter.htm

I'n not sure if that will work with an XBOX, but I dont see any reason why not.

Edit 2: Fitting the new HDD into the xbox case shouldn't be too hard, the HDD holder is plastic, so you could probably drill some new holes.

Edit 3: You'll need to mod the xbox of course, if you havn't already, get a chameleon mod chip. They're cheap and do everything you need.

Craig seen as you are in the UK Check this site out for The Cheapest Mod Chips, and the BEST Service -

http://www.eliteconsoles.com

They have XBOX Mod Chips and 120GB MAXTOR XBOX Hard Drives Etc

http://www.eliteconsoles.com

I ordered a Messiah 2 Pro for my PS2 one Thursday Afternoon at about 3pm and received it at 8am Friday Morning (Next Day). also when you contact them for help or info etc they reply within 10 minutes or less (Sometimes 20 seconds ) and are Very Helpful... They are the best ModChip suppliers in the UK my opinion and I Dont think you will find cheaper, Trust me :D

You must mod the Xbox to be able to change the Hard Drive. I recommend the Xenium modchip. It is one of the latest generation of modchips. Other than that, you can wait a while and get the Xecuter 3, which will be the pioneer for the latest mod chip features.

If you are going to be taking it out the casing to fit it into your car, then yes I recommend a smaller Hard Drive, but if you plan to keep the Xbox casing, there is no point getting a laptop drive as they are much more expensive. And you won't be making any better use of the space inside as everything has a designated spot as it is. Plus laptop harddrives are much slower. Apparently, a 5400rpm drive won't act any slower than a 7200rpm drive, so you can get a huge 5400rpm drive and put everything on it. You can fit about 50games and tons of Roms on a 160GB drive. People also recommend the 5200rpm drives because they generate less heat, which is a problem in some Xboxs.

When you get to the software part, you need to replace the Dashboard with another. I recommend EvolutionX Dashboard. This will allow you to create an entry in your menu by adding an entry to the Evox.ini file. (I also think you can autolauch programs, but I haven't checked)
