Yeah, you know what I say? To hell with supporting the corporate giant. I'm not buying a PSP until they give me a reason to, and emulation is not one of those reasons. Since the only thing it has over the GP32 other than power is commercial games, I'm waiting for some good commercial games to come out for it that I actually want to play. THEN I'll consider buying a PSP. Until then, you can forget it. I can deal with 85-90% speed with frameskip 3 for SNES(chrono trigger) forever, if I have to. I'd much rather have fullscreen that doesn't look like crap than a good framerate, and it's still playable anyway. If I ever buy a PSP, it'll be a long time from now unless they come out with a bunch of great games within the next month or something. Even then, I'd still rather wait for the GPX2.

Ummm... exactly WHAT GP32 coder (except for the SNES9x team) went on to the PSP?
None other I know!

And the gpx2 will have SNES, no need to worry.

Well the SNES 9x team is a BIG one. But it seems you are thrilled with the PSP anyway, so I guess it won't matter much. Maybe the remaining GP32 scene should forget about the GPx2 and just move on to PSP too? The PSP is more powerful anyway, I just wish the screen matched better, I hate that damn stretching.

I wonder why you are always talking in such a negative way... I'm not thrilled with the PSP, I find it nice playing Star Ocean on it, and that's it.
The gpx2 can do it also (and, btw., I do much more helping the gpx2 to become successful than I do for the PSP...).

I also have a GBA and NDS, and use both for homebrew.
My favourite system is still the gpx2.

And I really advise EVERYONE from the GP32 scene to wait for the gpx2. Besides the fact that it's not sure if you can ever play homebre on 2.0 PSPs, it's not as well suited for what most want than the gpx2.
AND the gpx2 is much cheaper.

I just got the PSP because I want to play good RPGs (which will come out for the PSP), and as I was buying one anyway, I surely wanted one which supports homebrew without modding.

Your favorite system is the GPx2? But they aren't out yet

As for 2.0 FW, someone will crack it. The PSP scene is too huge. If it can't be cracked there will be a hardware mod for it.

Cheaper yeah a few bucks here or there won't break anyone though. It is still better to get the one with the biggest scene and the most emu coder support. Plus the PSP is much more powerful at 133 MHz more CPU than the GPx2 (333 vs 200). This will mean that there will be stuff that can be emulated on the PSP that won't work as well on the GPX2 speed wise like NeoGeo and SNES.

besides of all the gpx2 fan-boying i guess the facts are pretty much agains the gpx2.

wifi + 333 mhz + hardware 3d support

as soon as quake 1, quake 2 works via wifi on the psp i guess i'll be abandoning my gp32.

wait, no. because no one i know has a handheld too.

but the firmware problems could deliver a significant blow to the psp scene. still specs favor it, and i guess the firmware will be hacked sooner or later.

let's see what the features holds.

People have managed to remove the flash chip from the PSP and read it externally, and I know someone who has changed the contents and placed it back into the psp (although it was basically a brick afterwards, so probably checksummed or somesuch).

Sure, not everyone will have the capability of removing BGA flash chips, reflashing them, and replacing them onto the board, but even if some body bought all the BGA rework equipment, they'd probably get enough business to repay the equipment costs within a week or so anyway :)

So just give it time and something will turn up. Then Sony will bring out a new PSP with a different PCB and BIOS, and it'll all start all over again.

Hmmm, talking of which, arn't we on the 13th version of the PS2 PCB now? Kinda tells you something doesn't it?

i dont like yoyofr he deserted gp32 :(
Thats quite an immature comment, guy!

If I was a coder then I would code for myself, thats probably the only way a hobby like that would stay interesting... learning new stuff and all, new challenges.

i really think there just gonna stick with the psp's! its a bigger comunity, more people worship them = more populeraty! And if anything is released its widely known!

If that was the case the gp32 would never have had anything released for it.

I have a PSP and the emus are getting better all of the time. If it weren't for the PSP aspect ratio, screen ghosting/smearing and the less than stellar d-pad I would have binned my GP32 long ago. So each will have enough good points to make them kind of worth while depending on preference. While the GPx2 has a weak CPU making perfect SNES or NeoGeo very unlikely it has better screen aspect/res and controls for emus. The PSP with the above flaws has 2 brutally powerful CPUs making perfect SNES and Neo a sure thing. So for Genesis and under there is the GPx2. For SNES and above you will need a PSP.

Curses to GPH for putting in that slow 200 MHz CPU  If only they would have given us 300 MHz it would have blown away the PSP for 2D system emulation.

So EvilDragon, have you already SEEN the SNES emulator for the GPx2 in action? From what you said it seems like you're privy to quite a bit of stuff that the rest of us aren't. ;)

The PSP is great, but not as great as the GPx2 is gonna be for Emulation. To be honest, I've been a little dissapointed b the psp homebrew stuff, and I think that the drive for coders to improve it is currently waning, along with the chances of 2.0 f/w being cracked.

The GPx2 is definitely the hope for me and emulation, and I'm definitely looking forward to it all with baited breath...
