I'm just curious based on my previous thread to see how many people would have bought something else if these systems were released at the time you guys bought your GP32. Keeping in mind the cost of the GP32 now, the PSP at $185 and the DS at i believe $150.

My answer was NO, i would've got a PSP if it was released at the same time i bought my Gp32.

gp32_console Try emulating anything on either one of those systems. Also, why dont you buy them all, dont give me that "i cant afford more than one of them" answer to my reply because if you cant, then just sell your Gp32 on ebay, you would be suprised how many people would buy it from you.

if the gp32 were released to compete the DS and the PSP, it would be a more powerful than it is now... you are asking us if we would have bought a machine that has been out for over 3 years instead of 2 very new powerful machines... you can't really compare because there would be no dev scene for any of them and the gp32 would not look as good on paper as the other two and none of us have a crystal ball so it would be impossible to guess what a huge community would pop up around the little handheld from Korea...

Of course I would have bought the gp32_console instead. Especialy now that there is a psx emulator coming out soon. what do u think I am, CRAZY! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

For me it's definately a yes, because I wanted something I could program on. There will be dev scenes for both the psp and the ds, but at least one year after they're out, or maybe much more.

In conclusion, I will buy one of those systems when I can program on it. -_-

a lot of you seem to be forgetting.. if the gp32 were just being released now... there would be no emulators for it.... NONE... the dev scene would not exist yet.

EDIT... The PSX em will never be anything more then a 1 or 2 frame a second "special project". The creator of it says as much in his thread over on his dev site.

When I bought my GP32 most of the emulators bar SNES and MD were running fine.

I bought it brand new in April. But that wasn't the question...pAiN was asking 'when you bought your GP32', which for me was only a few months ago. And with all those emulators running close to perfect, I'd still choose my GP32 over a PSP. In fact, I'd probably choose a GP32 over a PSP or a DS no matter when the comparison (unless either handheld suddenly develops homebrew scene as active and as easy to access as the GP32's...which is about 99% never gonna happen).

The PSP/DS and the GP32 are too different to compare. Asking if you'd have bought a GP32 had you been given the option of a PSP is a bit like asking if you'd buy a train instead of a car. Same purpose, different way of going about it. And personally I think both trains and cars have their advantages...I use both :p

/end rant

I wanted a emulation retro handheld, and thats the GP32. If you want shite modern games then go get a blinking PSP or DS.

To maybe put a different slant on this, i bought my GP32 fairly recently in the full knowledge that the PSP and the DS were soon to be released, this did not however influence my choice in buying it. I knew from day one when i bought it that it was more than worth it. The GP32 homebrew and emulation development scene is amazing and the choice of games we have now because of it is staggering, its a bit of a no brainer question for me really, of course i would have bought one. I fully intend to buy a PSP as well to add to my handheld gaming arsenal.

It just means if the ds and psp were new, and you had just decided to get one now, not when it first came out

got my GP32 in Feb this year knowing full well that new machines were on the horizon.

For value you cant fault the GP32 with so many free things available, whilst the DS & PSP are undeniably exciting pieces of kit I cant see the homebrew/Emu scene being anything like as good as on the GP32.

Sony/Nintendo would not approve of people having fun without shelling out £30 per game.

That's ^^ another reason why I got the gp32_console. Sony and Nintendo were thriving off of me and still are. HEHE (Gamecube, Ps1) I know teh ps1 is pretty old but I still by stuff for it.

It will be a long time before any homebrew code runs on actual DS/PSP hardware, which is why I will have a gp32 and a DS. This question really is (IMO) a rather stupid one.

i voted no but i say i still would (the endless debating of the gp is the ongoing story of rather or not you want to be able to play good ole games from when you a kid and have a tear drop from your i when you play cause you just cant keep the memories in side and if thats wrong then tell me how to be right)because it has all this kewl stuff lik um..... and that...uh... well you know what i mean(the games ) :D

You seem to forget when you attach the 150$ price tag that games cost 40$ a pop (im in england so not totally sure bout game prices in US) with GP32 you may spend 200$ getting Gp and afew Smcs and rechargables and your investment is done. Thats like a DS with 1 mabye 2 games.

I know which id rather have.......

i voted seeing as how i'm getting one after a few more weeks paychecks and i pretty much have the choice between all three
