It was posts like this that made me think that when the Pandora 2 is being thought out we should have 2 cartridge slots (may be a bit bigger that a DS cartridge (ask the hardware guys))

One would be at the front and replace one of the sd slots (but would come with a sd card reader cartridge)

The one at the back would come empty.

Then, instead of stuffing tonnes of phone/gps/camera/radio/tv hardware in:

(expensive)(not everyone wants all that)(takes up lots of space)(complicated one-piece pcb to give production/hardware devs a headache)

things sticking out would only do so by under cm or so I think.

We could then produce all that as cartridges 2 months at a time and sell them seperately:

Navigation: contains gps and digital compass [flush]

Broadcast media: DAB/DMB/DAB+/FM/DVB chipset [tv out socket and antenna sticking out ]

Mobile interwebs: contains sim card slot [flush]

USB hub: [dwisott]

Hacker cartridge 1: takes the raw USB/I2C conections and provides connections too them

Hacker cartridge 2: provides nice protected, buffered, and easily controlled output pins. [sticks out]

2 way comms ports: IR, Xbee?

Camera cartridge: small protruding camera [put in front slot for user facing /etc]

Tactile gaming: gyro, accelerometer haptic feedback vibrator.

Battery hot-swap: small rechargeable battery. (put in when main one is empty, swap main battery, optionally charge back up form main battery or mains. (for those who don't want the above features they could get some extra battery life!)

when the built in stuff becomes obsolete a supplement cartridge could be made (e.g.for physically different memory cards/the latest wifi.

I think this would help keep the project up to date and appeal to a wider rage of users while keeping the cost down.

Well, it would for sure mean a redesign of the PCB and a altered case mould. Other than that, it would be a neat system. Although I'm not sure where you would find space for *two* of them. Replacing a SD-card slot with one is a stretch in itself. Also, it would mean finding a connector suitable, both with pin count, density, thickness etc. in mind.

I can't see anything in there but battery and the "hacking" cartridges that can't use USB, we could technically make a recessed EXT port, There is enough pins on that. The problem with this is making these (and they would be redundant, you cold buy some of this stuff in USB form anyways), and your making the physical device bigger.

A port of CPS2 Emulator from the GP2X, with Capex front end. This is actually a doable request right? Maybe some scaling options?

Chris

it was serious and thought out... but i never intend to actually see half of them... at least not for the next 5 years... but its a wish list and I was inthe mood to dream... the pandora with all that crap would be my *dream device*

nothing i put is impossible... some are improbable... all together are rather unlikely

but maybe one or two will make the cut in the next revision
In that case, nice list! I'm definitely on board with at least half of what you put down

personally I would prefer a larger device that was a single unit to a smaller one with usb devices sticking out in all directions.

A cartridge system would mean we could appeal to those who want loads of fancy hardware without making the Pandora 2 big enough to fit them all in.

As many of the devices available are already for USB, a connection to internal usb in these slots (we'd need a custom connector) would make the hardware dev's job easier.

Instead of onboard screen, onboard Pico Projector, with a case lid either coated on one side that can function as attached front-projection screen or translucent for rear-projection for handheld use.

Detachable wireless keyboard D-pad/analogue controllers for using when projecting.

Rear of the unit, the existing battery cover, to function as a trackpad. Since my fingers are there much of the time anyway, they may as well make themselves useful.

Coffee maker.

My Wishlist:

A port of Shadow Warrior for the Pandora  ,

and if its possible in near Future a port of Doom 3 when id Soft have the Source Code released after their

new game Rage. That would be awesome if Doom 3 runs on the Pandora with some Overclock and

Graphic adjustments.

( And i'm dreaming from another Game on the Pandora, i know there is no Source Code for this and no

Chance to play it on the Pandora, that dreaming Game i mean is "Severance Blade of Darkness" . :D )

Man, I'd love to see the game Uplink ported onto the Pandora. Its an extremely low resource using game, and the source code has been released for all to see. (though torrenting) "WHO SAID THAT!?"

You can also buy the right to make mods with the source code. The developer CD wasn't that expensive iirc. Also; if you ask nice, they would probably allow you to port it using it, as long as you don't bundle any game assets except for the binaries needed by the particular platform.

Have you guys played the Onlink mod? It is a huge mod that is in development (stalled though I think), they eventually got to the point where they are just writing all the code from scratch now.
