Windows Ce Becomes More Plausible?

nah I was just getting upset at people wasting time and effort on CE as though it was some holy grail of computing, lets face it, pocket PCs sucked cos MS don`t have either "compact" "fast" "flexible" or "intuitive" in their vocabulary, the Palm handhelds where much better, but between pocket PCs being power hungry and Palm taking their eye off the ball, the whole pocket computer thing died, phones don`t fill that gap in any serious way imo, I never found em that usable as computing devices.

if imagetec have a driver then thats ok for CE users I suppose, but I doubt CE will mean much to Pandora owners anyway, its way easier to develop for Linux, the default OS is Linux, and like Windows in the desktop/laptop world, the default OS will be king in the Pandora world, strange realy, Microsoft software will have the minor market share, funny

I think that if people really want to see some form of Windows on the Pandora then someone needs to step forward and start a project and get things organized. Use this thread to get people interested and possible contribute to your project. Otherwise please stop spamming the forums with yet-another-will-windows-run-on-the-pandora. I'm sure there is enough smart people floating around that can get something going and I would be more then happy to point anyone interested to your site. In fact, I'll even offer web services and space to get you started. Time to step up.

Someone already announced that he is willing to make a wince port for Pandora. He has got access to the MS Dev. Network. He asked for a dev-board but didn't get one. There won't be much to discuss till Pandora is shipping(if that guy hasn't lost interest by now).

That guy posted more on the other board that was created after gp32x' breakdown.

For those of you who keep pointing out that CE sucks and Linux is better, we kind of understand that or else we'd be buying a Pocket PC not the Pandora. However, that being said, if you were someone who owned a Pocket PC and game software like myself, the idea of having some of those really cool games on a device that has better controls, better battery life and is capable of being rebooted back into Linux to do so much more is a wonderful thing. Some would say that it would be completely moronic to emulate an Apple II cause after all you could write much better software that would run under Linux, yet if someone makes an Apple II Emu, I highly doubt people would use that against them. If CE is ported to Pandora I will run my games and be happy. I would use no other CE function as there would be nothing I could think of that the Pandora couldn't do better when not running CE.

I for one hopes this becomes a reality. I want to move Angel Egg (pinball), Slurp (puzzle) Hexacto Casino, Bounty Hunter (pinball), Monopoly, Yahtzee, and many other games from my pocket PC to Pandora, as well as an app I can't remember the name of that allows you to draw animations, Maybe even use AvantGo again or my pocket Bible program. There are quite a few fun and useful programs that made the Pocket PC fun to use despite an OS that seems to have less features than Win 3.1.

Anything that adds more enjoyment to my Pandora experience can't possibly be a bad thing...no matter how crappy the OS is I cannot see how anyone could argue against that.

+1

Although i do not plan to use WinCE myself (or know any of the games you mentioned ; ) i found some of the comments here pretty harsh, more choices of operating systems can never be wrong. This sums it up pretty nicely :)

Why is running WinCE on the Pandora occasionally any different to firing up a Playstation emulator to play FF7? Nobody said they'd be replacing linux on the device...
The difference is that a Playstation emulator will run under Linux, and thus give you everything Linux does. Running WinCE is not going to be easy under Linux, and so you'll need a modified uboot to run the WinCE bootloader to get WinCE running, and thus drivers for all the Pandora specific stuff.

Can this thread get a lock? These posts are going all over the place. The original was meant to inform people of free TechNet subscriptions (which would allow access to the Windows CE building tools so somebody could build a Pandora version without paying the huge subscription fees), which seem to have ended.
