Win2X : Alternative Frontend

Oh sorry, I didn't realise it was limited because of the letter width, I thought it was just a quick fix, if you could add more space it would be better.
Perhaps the cut off point could be limited by the width of the description rather than the amount of letters.

One other thing: Some programs don't shut off completely after exiting (causing slow down on other programs run afterwards, by still running in the background), could the memory be completely cleared when Win2X reloads?

The keyboards are looking good now. :)

Cheers, Neil

Hmmmm....Interesting.Could you please mention the programs that seems to remain in RAM?

ZX81's emulators seem to be the worst offenders, once they've been exited I have trouble running other programs afterwards. (This also happens on the old frontend)
The gpu's to start them don't run through Win2X (no .gpu's work on Win2X), so I had to make some .gpe's pointing at the .gpu's.
There was some more that didn't unload properly but I can't remember them of the top off my head. (Does anybody know of any more?)

Cheers, Neil

If the ZX81 doesn't exit properly, then the author of it must make a fix because there are no much I can do with.About the gpu's....I do not have any problem running gpu's.There is not anything bad with the gpu extension but what the gpu is running within.Anyway in the last version I have changed
the way the applications are loaded into the kernel.Maybe you can give a try and run a gpu directly without a pointing gpe.Let me know how it goes..

I encountered the same issue randomly on old frontend but i never figure out what was going on. Under dingux or under my linux PC it works just fine (it's the same code). Is there any other SDL apps with that kind of error ?

I haven't noticed any myself.Maybe you could check the emulator's exit code or the SDL quit finalization once more?
Or check if the software invokes other handles(directly or indirectly)that remain in memory after exiting?

Is there a way to completely clear the memory when reloading Win2X after exiting from a program, by building it into the Win2X start up?
Cheers, Neil

BTW: ZX81 is the name of the programmer. ( http://zx81.zx81.free.fr/serendipity/index.php?/categories/82-GP2X-Wiz ) :)

CHP, once again I'd like to thank you for your continued devotion to this project, I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say we greatly appreciate Win2X. Also JayWhite - I love the gfx you are creating - my only sugestion is that adding more symbols to the keyboard may come in very handy - particularly " = + and -.

I've just signed in and I'm afraid I don't have many issues or suggestions that spring to mind (I've been a bit unwell and haven't been useing the Wiz). The only thing I would request is a feature to enable the swithcing off multiple user support - I know it was me that sugested it, and it's a great feature, but not one I will use, so the few seconds I'd gain by turning it off would make me a happier user (if it just went immediately to desktop rather than going to admin user first then logging in automatically). It's a minor thing, but as much feature flexibility as possible is always a good thing.

Again thanks for your work and to everyone who has offered ideas and feedback. I'll try and get a bit more time to think things over and offer my usual batch of suggestions/improvements when I'm feeling better.

All the best

Titan.

I would think so. The game Wind and Water for the Wiz unloads everything from the memory when you exit the game in order to free up resources. It's just a matter of someone knowing how to compile a script to do it. The demo for the game is over at openhandhelds. Analyzing all of the files might result in finding out how it's done.

No there isn't.WIZ is running under linux, which means that there are other handles running in the background. This means that we cannot "clear" the memory. The only solution is that every software must take care of its own finalization.

Titan!Nice to "see" you again and thank you for the appreciation.
Unfortunately it would be inconvenient to add enable/disable the user support as it is embedded in the very core of Win2X's logic.
But I sure can add an enable/disable the welcome screen(which will save 2 secs) if you like.

Wish you to recover fast and be back again.

Update:

Changed the blue, The fonts still remain a puzzle, as to different users want different stuff.

I'm thinking this should do it for the color.

KB5C.png

If anybody wants their own certain font, I can upload a blank keyboard and you can fill in the void.

Like a charm...You'll see yourself in the upcoming release.I also added a scroll effect when showing up the keyboard.

No...There are still things I want to do.In the next few days though it will be ready...

K i'll be patiently waiting. In the meantime I'll design some more stuff! Anything you want me to design? Or work on?
