Graphics are not a measure of the game. I'm really, REALLY starting to get sick of everybody who screams for better, faster, more beautiful graphics, and then cries because the gameplay is shitty. You can't have it both ways people, Storyline & Gameplay should ALWAYS come before graphics (unless its a game with niether). What the industry needs is less companies always pushing for better graphics, and more companies trying to strike a balance between the two. Something that the Wii is most likely going to pull off very well, i'd wager.

Concurred!!

We recently got Final Fantasy XII ... we're about 15 hours into the game ...

We're bored already.

Yes, it looks amazing.
Yes, the battle system is 'innovative' and 'flexible'.
.. but the story feels derivative and cliche'd, and I don't give a rats ass about any of the characters (especially that fag Vaan and his queer-boy costume).

I just got FF3 for the 'DS ... Now there's a great game. It's kinda sad to see that the only decent RPG to come out for years is a re-issue of an old-ass game (albeit with a few tweaks and gfx upgrade) that never even made it to the U.S.

If it weren't for Oblivion, I'd pass on the PS3 completely and get a Wii instead. What turns me off to the Wii is that gimmicky controller. I'm a lazy old fart, and can't picture myself flailing around to control a video game.
Regarding FFXII I heard the story starts to get amazing after the first bit of the game.

And the difference in price between the Wii and the PS3 (include games in that, which are a full $10 cheap in the US, at least..). ;)

Well, you get what you pay for ;)... If you want Top Technology / graphics you need to pay the extra... Its like buying a Direct X8 Card or a Direct X10 card, if you want the latest graphics you need to pay the extra.... I might get a Wii just to try to controller out but its PS3 or Xbox360 for me mainly because of the ages the games are aimed at (PS3 and Xbox being aimed at the older side of the gaming market...)

Yes, graphics are all fine and dandy, and if your someone who gets off by watching a fancy 3d render with little interaction, more power to you. I for one prefer the old days of Chrono trigger, FF3, Or even the N64 Zelda games. Because they had a story that drew me deeply in and kept me captivated for days on end (hell, i skipped school more than once when i first got them  ) and they had graphics on par with those stories.

Now, compare the recent FF games to Zelda. We're on FF...12 already? And how many spin-off games and movies? Now, how many of those games actually made your jaw drop or made you go "oh...my...GOD!"? I can only think of 3, and some of the recent ones i've just given up playing they were so crappy and re-hashed.

Comparing that to Zelda, of which we are on #13. However, an interesting note arises: While FF has been getting shittier and shittier as they progress, Zelda has become nothing but better. Every new installment appears to be a substantial improvement over the last, both graphicly and storyline/gameplay wise. Granted the series has had faults, but overall it has not yet started down FF's road.

Explanation: The recent FF games have been pushed out rediculously fast, and have always tried to sell based on how much thier graphics are. Take 12 for example. When i was reading about it in PS magazine, i didn't get very much info about the plot or the world, all i heard was the writer gushing about the graphics. Zelda, on the other hand, usually is in development for several years (very rarely is more than one released for a console, thats how long they are developed) and every game has some new feature of plot or gameplay.

Now, you say why should we move up from the N64? Well, processing power for one. You may not believe it, but the Wii has a substantial graphical and CPU advantage over both the GC and the Wii, which will allow developers to implement more interesting gameplay features. Contrary to your belief DaveC, the Wii actually looks better than the 360 or the PS3 (the games on both of which look extremely washed-out, color wise, and suffer from blurring in some games). But as i've said before. Each to his own. If you prefer nothing but eye-candy, go ahead and buy a PS3 or a 360, no ones stopping you. If you prefer half-decent gameplay and story, then perhaps buy a Wii, it remains to be seen if it will hold up nintendo's track record of delievering both. (Although, so far Zelda is looking to be one of the best games out for any of the 3 systems).

What are you talking about? FFXII has been in development for something like five years. Thats hardly rushed and we haven't had a standard non online series game since early 2002.

They pump them out so fast, i assumed it was "game done, okay, lets start on the next". I stand corrected it seems. FF has lost its spirit since many of its creators left >_>
The reason they can get them out so fast is because Square enix is quite a big company, so they have many teams who can work on different games at the same time.

Which is very likely why they suck. FF was great in the old days, why? Because they only ahd one team of very talented people making them, and the same team made each game. Zelda doesn't suck, Why? Because they still follow that way of making games.

Stop avoiding how much you're full of shit. You already did it at least once in this thread alone. You did NOT skip school when those games came out, you would've been 2 years old.

Stop being such a flaming retard.

Bah Az... as much as I like the Wii... you are removing the credibility from its awesomeness as a console with the utterences that are being typed by yourself... The Wii games don't look better than the XBOX630 or PS3 GFX-wise... so don't say stupid things like that.
The Wii is more powerful than the GCN. It has enough power to do pretty GFX. The only people that would bitch about the visuals are those that have "spoiled" themselves with a nice HD tv screen...
I'm glad to see the "kiddy console" remarks are starting nice and early in the life of the Wii also... in spite of it being aimed at everyone...

Well, maybe he first got them years after they were released.

</technicality> :p

Wii looks better than PS3 and 360? That is ridiculous. The Wii has better colors? WHAT!!?? That is retarded. Maybe you think that because just about every Wii game is some kind of cartoon oriented movie tie-in with over-saturated garish colors. Colors are an art choice not a hardware spec. Blurring? All of the Wii games that I have seen are VERY blurry do to the low-res textures. Then there is the fact that the Wii resolution is at least *4X less* than any PS3 or 360 game.

Maybe you just like the Wii better for other reasons but saying it has better graphics is plain wrong.

That is, quite possibly the most retarded thing i have ever seen, and the internet is packed full of retarded stuff.
I honestly think you don't proof-read what you say before you post it, because everything, EVERYTHING is complete, and utter tripe. Please, refrain from posting about things you know jack-all about, which unfortunately for you, seems to be practically everything.

Because he's a wiitard.

What he said is absolutely ludicrous. Did anyone know that Zelda wont look half decent unless you give nintendo 30 more USD for cables? Yes, news to me. They're selling it on their site.

If sony did something like that, you wouldn't hear the end of it. But ninty can do no wrong.

In my opinion, charging 70 USD for the game with cables is wrong. If you don't get the cables, Twilight Princess looks like Twilight N64 garbage. Balls to that.

What? Isn't the cable just a component or whatever input? Using a composite input cable doesn't make it look like N64...
