I can quickly forsee this SD card capability being the Wii's version of

"OMFG GUYS! Sega lets the DC read NORMAL CD'S! And they think we're gonna BUY those games now? XD"

You see my point...

Well, one would hope for Nintendo's sake that they were planning on having the Wii succeed through Wii games, not through the virtual console.

Graphics are not a measure of the game. I'm really, REALLY starting to get sick of everybody who screams for better, faster, more beautiful graphics, and then cries because the gameplay is shitty. You can't have it both ways people, Storyline & Gameplay should ALWAYS come before graphics (unless its a game with niether). What the industry needs is less companies always pushing for better graphics, and more companies trying to strike a balance between the two. Something that the Wii is most likely going to pull off very well, i'd wager.

Bullshit.

Who says that "You can't have it both ways" ? Is there some cosmic rule somewhere that I don't know of that states if a game has good graphics the rest of it has to suck? If a system has good graphics power a good game is just a matter of someone designing one. In that case you would have it "both ways". With the Wii the hardware limits you. So while you can always have a good game design, the graphics will *always* be low res and blow no matter what. On a system with good hardware you CAN have it both ways, with a wiik system like the Wii all that you can have is a good game design that is it. The PS3 will crush the Wii after the novelty of that gay controller wears off.

I should have known this thread was gonna turn into a console-war.

It was a complete surprise to me ... what with all the level-headed, unbiased folk here.

</shocking>

P.S. I just want to play Oblivion. On my couch. With a wireless PS3 controller. On my PS3. Yeah.

Find me a game that they spent less than 4 years making, that balances both. So far, the only game i've seen do such a thing is Half Life 2, and it took what, 5 years? But each to his own opinion.

Shenmue. That was in development for like 7 years. Superb graphics (for the time, obviously) and outrageously great story/gameplay.

The only thing limiting the Wii will be its controller. I don't think that something will come along that will be technically impossible to accomplish on the Wii, but it can clearly never be as pretty as the same thing on the PS3. Whether the controller will actually limit the Wii is yet to be seen, but I could never imagine owning a Wii without having (or intending to have) one of the other consoles as well.

Gentlemen (and ladies) may i present to you:

THERE! IS THAT CRYSTAL CLEAR? Yes, the Wiimote is a bitch, BUT ITS NOT THE ONLY OPTION!

BUT ITS NOT THE ONLY OPTION!
Exactly, an option. That means they will probably be underused. The Wii will be a platform that thrives on exclusive titles, and I expect that it will be largely overlooked when it comes to multiplatform games due in part to the weird controls. I don't think publishers will be happy releasing a game that requires the gamer to purchase a different controller to ever be able to play; there's a great chance that will discourage sales.

If it weren't for Oblivion, I'd pass on the PS3 completely and get a Wii instead. What turns me off to the Wii is that gimmicky controller. I'm a lazy old fart, and can't picture myself flailing around to control a video game.
TC, on a lot of games you are supposed to be able to use the Classic controller or a Game Cube pad. I guess it's something like Donkey Konga, where you can use the pad if you are fed up of the bongos...

EDIT: It is so far so good for third party support. If you guys would get your heads out of your ass and do some research you'd know this. Only certain games will FORCE you to use the Wiimote... and there are other attachments for the Wiimote: You have a thing to make it into a gun (NES Zapper OMG!) and a thing to make it into a steering wheel(not so enthoused bout that...).

you could always just buy a xxx-gamecube adapter so you can play using ur fave control if u dont like it. (like a ps1/2 pad)

Oh, so it´ll be exactly like when the PSP crushed the DS after the novelty of that gay touchscreen wore off?
exactly.

Most people don't care about graphics. The DS proves that.

Touchscreens and motion-sensing controls seem much more futuristic and 'next-gen' than a few graphical improvements only noticeable to the trained eye.

So Nintendo may lose a few sales from graphics junkies like DaveC but the average consumer won't even notice unless they are told.

By your logic if most don't care about graphics then why bother progressing from the N64? Just add a wacky controller to that, sell it for $99 and be done with it.

The difference between the PS3 and Xbox 360 graphics may need a "trained eye". You would have to be as blind as a bat to not notice the difference betwen Wii graphics and the PS3 though.

Great idea, but wait,
Isn't that just a DS? Which happens to be very successful- more successful than the far more powerful and graphically superior PSP. I'm sure you prefer the PSP though.

Obviously graphical improvements are welcome to me too. But they are not the only important thing. Gameplay and cost are the two things I am looking for in this generation.

A game with great gameplay but basic graphics will always triumph over a game with amazing graphics but awful gameplay. Otherwise, we'd all sit at home watching Toy Story and Final Fantasy.

Because developers like powerful systems they can develop for. And because most people do care about graphics. And because more power actually does have an impact on gameplay quality (physics, KI etc.).
Noone would buy a new Gamecube or N64 because of a new controller, and if you just sell the controller, it wouldn´t be used by most games and thus go the way of such "strange" HIDs like the lightgun or the dancemat.

So people want a new console, and they want it to be improved in every way, not just the controls.
But the huge 3D abilities of the PS3 and 360 are not necessary. There´s no gameplay concept that would only be possible on PS3 and 360 because the Wii lacks graphical power.
