As my Pandora should be arriving soon I was wondering which SD cards I should be buying. And even more important: where should I buy them from?

Buy them from somewhere trustworthy (the various regional Amazon sites, Play.com, Newegg, etcetera). DO NOT go anywhere near eBay. Always test with H2testw regardless of where you get them from, because sometimes fakes do get into the legitimate supply-chains.

That aside, what kind, or speed, or whatever, doesn't *really* matter enormously, unless you're planning on booting an OS from it (in which case, go for a fast one). Personally, I'd go with a known-good brand (myself, I stick with SanDisk and Verbatim). I've noticed that under normal usage, there's little difference between Class 4 and Class 6 for what I happen to do (for me, that means emulators/games, web-browsing, music, and writing, generally).

EDIT: Hah, looks like I got double-ninja'd while I was writing this.

Well actually, I think.... <smack> <punch> <kick> ouch, Prometheus, that hurts. OK, I'll keep quiet now.

Seriously though I have one question: what do you think about Transcend cards? They seem to have fairly good prices in London these days (Amazon, Play.com, etc.) We can find 32GB Class 10 cards for less than £40.

^ I don't have any myself, so I can't comment, but I'm pretty sure I've heard good words from others. :P

I picked up a Transcend 4GB card when I got my GP2X F200, and have had no problems with it so far.

I think I also picked up a 16GB card at the same time, but would need to check when I get home.

I don't think there is any problem with Transcend, if I am recalling correctly I ordered them from Amazon.

still have 3 32gb sandisk ultras 15mb/sec read for $80+shipping for anyones thats interested

Related content (also, small explanation regarding SD card speeds).

Some SD card creators simply but whatever they can get for cheap on the market, rebrand/relabel it and sell it as their own, not caring too much about quality as long as it just works. Thus, the speed of SD cards by some brands may vary greatly, also depending on the usage scenario.

Personally, I typically recommend using SanDisk or, even more so, Panasonic SD cards. SanDisk develops their NAND and SD controllers under own control, Panasonic develops their controllers under own control (does anyone know what quality standards exactly Panasonic has for the NAND it uses?). Alongside Toshiba, both are developers of the SD card standard.

I have no idea what kind of quality standards Transcend sets for their own SD cards, but from my non-representative experience, they don't fail uncommonly often. Keep in mind that because EVERY storage media might fail, backups are ALWAYS important, and it's a good idea to also test whether restoring of your backups really works.
