I want to play Lemmings on my GP32, but don't know which one works the best. Lemmings is possibly the most ported game ever, so theres alot of choices.

My guess is that the Atari ST and Genesis versions are the best canidates.

The Genesis version is the one I'm the most familiar with. I have a Genesis and the game. But I have never seen an Atari ST. I'm thinking the main issue with the Genesis version would be the sound and the main issue with the ST version would be the controls, but this is only an educated guess.

I say stick with the Genesis one... it works great.

Surprised you would expect the sound on the Genesis one to be iffy? Or did you have that reversed? The ST is well known for NOT having great sound.

Nope, you read right. I'm not a Drmd beta tester, so I only have v1.0, and it as we all know has sound issues.

Oh.. in that case... not sure. Surely even v1.0 DrMD still does the sound better than the Atari ST ;) I dont remember if I tried this game or not when I still had v1.0 so can only say, just give it a try!

The best version on the GP32 are the Megadrive and Master System versions. The Master System version works wonderfully and if I remember correctly the MD version had no gameplay issues with DrMD 1.0. On beta 5&up (and therefore the next public release) it works perfectly.

The Atari ST version would be nice (been playing through the ST versions on PC recently), but unfortunately control issues with the mouse emulation mean it's unplayable.

I must try the C64 version through GPfrodo soon....
EDIT: scratch that thought, the C64 version needs a keyboard to select the lemming types. It would to cumbersome unless you had a chatboard.

Well personally, the version of lemmings I like best is the original dos version. (Still have the floppy :p) But for the GP32, either the Master System or Genesis one is fine. I end up using the master system version more just because that SMC tends to have other systems on it.

Basically, it all about personal preference. Try each one out and judge for yourself.

I played the Genesis version a lot on DrMD1.0 and never experienced any sound problems. In fact, I didn`t even notice crackling sound or something like that. I thought it works perfect...

In a perfect world, the best version would be the SNES version - by far the best sound/music of any of the lemmings versions. I haven't played the MD version, but would assume whilst the music would be inferior, it must give a good account of itself. :)

The best version of Lemmings has to be the Amiga version, it's where the game originated and it's how it's _meant_ to be played. The Directors cut, if you will :)
However we don't have an Amiga emulator for the GP, so the next best is the Atari ST version but controlling using the joystick may be tricky.

On a different but related not, did anyone here ever play Lemmings on the either the ST or Amiga 2-player? It was amazing, both players on mice (two mice plugged in!). the idea was to get more Lemmings home than your opponent, and you could steal his :)
Amazing stuff, they would go and build bridges to get their lemmings home, so you would go send a lone lemming in to destroy their constructions!!!

It was fun.

Yes 2 player lemmings was brilliant, split screen goodness, problem was finding someone who was good enough at the game to offer good competition!

And I agree, the original Amiga version was the best, I just wish you could have SFX and Music on at the same time as some of the sound effects were so funny, especially that crushing machine.

In a perfect world, we would have full speed DOS emulation, and that would offer us the best Lemmings version...

Ok, decided on Genesis. Now I'm addicted all over again. Played it for an hour straight last night. You'd think the music going too fast would ruin it, but it actually makes it more fun. :D
