Urm, thought i'd be the voice of dissent here (for a change)
although i'm talking about the board as a whole, this stuff all really seems to be stemming from generalmx.
whats with the new authoritarian rule?
maybe i've only just noticed, but board rules have now popped up next to the homepage link. suddenly theres stickies of rules on every board. the amount of topics that are being moved (again most all by generalmx) has increased madly. The main issue i take with this is that the board now look plain scruffy!
the basis of your new rule seems to be an end to flaming, why would that be exactly? OK, so we're the at the forefront of the gp32 community, doesn't mean we should put up with, how to put it, wankers!
I agree that if stuff is posted in the help zone it should be considered flamus imunus, but when people are posting bulloxs in the general talk it should be considered a free for all.
I think its naive to say that the majority of the board go around flaming newbies, the majority of the board flame trolls and other suchs bacteria, why should these people not get a flame.
I notice that flamers will be repremanded for their actions, do you know what will make the biggest difference? Banning the very people who create the need for flames!
How about attacking the issue from the other side. I for one do get sick of the amount of "Help me put some games on my gp32" topics that appear in general talk. Why not stop repremanding the people who get a little tecthy as they tell someone to read the FAQ or search for the 10th time today, and warn the idiots who don't post in the right forums?
Basically, i just feel your alienating the people who keep the board alive. Yes, newbies are needed to keep the scene fresh, but if your going to start punishing those who have been quite happily using the boards for years in an attempt to create a sterile, opionless, dull atmosphere then your going to lose the very core of who make up the boards.
In conclusion, i guess im trying to say, chill out a little man. Maybe a rethink of the punishment system is required? Prevention is better than cure as people like to say, prevent the need for flames and annoyance and general ill feeling, and the need for such iron fisted rule will slip away.
Peace Out.
