What Is Sony Thinking?!!??

explain my reasons?? Have you read any posts from this thread?? Like the one thats only a few up from yours from Dzz that agrees it was of poor taste. It is poor taste.

You are being hypocritcal, you post that you feel its a waste of time to be bothered by this, but yet your wasting the most time by posting the longest threads, so if you feel it is a waste of time, why are you still posting??

Poking fun, ok maybe a bad choice of words, but still, remember this comment: "I really don't care enough to go googling for more of this trash. I am amazed that you bothered."

I value your opinion and you certianly entitled to it, but i'm more amazed that you can judge other peoples opinions, say its a waste of time to acknowledge the ads or discuss the ads, but yet you have the largest posts in this topic about the issue. maybe you should log on to Gamespot, one of the largest gaming news web sites and argue those people as well. Alot of them also think the ad is in poor taste.

Again, racist or not, thats up to the individuals own view of what racism is. Bad taste, poor judgement, i personally feel 100% this was poor judgement on Sony.

I think it just plain sucks, but it isnt racist, and isnt in bad taste. It's a bold attempt to get people talking, and it worked.

I think i already said this, but I'll say it again: everyone needs to pull the stick out of their asses. period.

jabberwocky: I too found her sexy when I thought she was dominating a man

If you believe it is poor judgement please explain your reasons for thinking that. Representing black and white using skin colour will only be an issue as long as people judge others by their colour.
Better to say it will only be an issue as long as depictions involving skin color evoke a negative emotional response. Since it does, it is poor judgement to use it. You can say that if human history and thought were different, and if people's natures were all different, it wouldn't be an issue. However, they are what they are and that makes this type of representation in poor taste at least and poor judgement if the people it pisses off makes them lose sales or makes the company's image or reputation suffer. Sony doesn't get to pick how people react to their marketing materials, they only get to choose which ones to use.

Perhaps they should use images of 9/11 when introducing the PS3 to demonstrate the effect on their American competitors. If people don't like it I supose they should just stop with the PC crap and get over it.

*chuckles* I can always count on 'ClassicGamer and Jabby to get hotly involved in discussions such as these.

I agree with Dzz. Having had people say my current signature is violent against women (albeit, as a joke), I've had small experiences with people conjuring up extra meaning. However, like Dzz said here, perhaps I should have just thought about the material I was using.

I'm sure Sony did intend on this effect - based on all the ads I found in my research, they are trying to be trendy and ruffle people's feathers, skirt the edge, etcetera.

Your original post was based on a white supposedly choking a black. I pointed out you can't choke someone by holding their chin. You have not presented an alternative reason as to why it is in poor taste.
Dzz has since given a sensible view on why it may have been poor judgement. However the overall impression I got, from the source you took this from, indicates that people don't think it racist or are not bothered by it. From those responses it does not appear to have tarnished Sony's image. If it doesn't affect their sales negatively it will not have been a poor judgement.

Yes, I do remember. I remember saying it after you called me a hypocrit, and after my initial two posts.

The only reason I have felt compelled to continue posting is because of your unfounded accusation that I am a hypocrite.

What is really funny is we almost agree, for once.

wow i didn't even notice the upside down cross   but that makes it even worse than it already was.

The ad is not sexual, the ad is pure white going to kick black ass portrayed very poorly. Mosch is absolutely correct, the other hand is poised to rip the guts out of the black "chick" and the upside down cross, well, that was probably another poor, planned, sony choice for advertising.

Unless the white psp is the anti-christ

Angel, I hate to tell you that, but I was trying to be sarcastic eventhough I deliberately used images from the ad that I picked up at first glance and that are sure to offend people.

The thing is everyone says it's disrespectful to black people because a black man is being choked. Let's face it, if it was a black man doing the choking it would be racist too. Fact is people find something racist in everything if they look hard enough. People want to get offended so they actively look for offensive material.

That said, I find the ad in very poor taste. First of all they are trying to tell people that the white PSP is superiour to the black one (so even if you have a black one you better just buy the white one too just to be safe), or at least it's more "aggro" than the black one and so better suited for the 16 year old gangstah homie or whatever they think.....

Well, most has been said already.... I suppose I'll just shut up.

Well, where I live, black people are potrayed (wrongly) of all being criminals. Well, if it was the black wo(man) doing the strangling, there would be an uproar saying that the ad potrays black people (excuse me if i used the wrong term there) as violent. It's the concept that is all wrong, not how it is played out.

Yeah, the whole Mary Winkler (pastor's wife murders him, runs off with two kids) thing rubs me the wrong way. So far, the defense said she had money issues? Jesus. If she was black and that's all the defense could come up with, how much sympathy do you think the woman would get? That rides me.

My wife is Latin. Some stores I have to follow her around to get the cashiers to notice her (Publix is a good exception to the rule). My mom was an activist in the 60's for Civil Rights. Edit: But unlike her and her friends, I didn't grow up an American Commie as I've seen folks call them here ;) I'm NPA.

I love treating people fairly, albeit as individuals. Take Jabby, for instance. He loves getting a rise out of folks and enjoys disagreeing, but that doesn't make me dislike him - I find the humor in it. Fortunately, seems he does too. It's not that hard to get along with people if we put some "understanding them" into it.

Do you live in the south dave? Cuz I visited Georgia and first realized publix existed (and kroger). Up north its Stop & Shop and a few others......
Can't slip one past you ;)

North Central Florida.

My lovely Mexican girl loves it when Floridians complain about heat. She has a natural resistance +4 to direct sunlight and heat.

Edit: I love your unScientology links. I was proud of myself that I knew 80% of the cases covered in the demonstration. Apparently, I did my homework. You should write "UnScientology" because I thought you were a Scientologist for a moment, and had to click on your link thinking "Say it ain't so, Joe!" (a kid said that to Shoeless Joe Jackson after he was accused of throwing a game).

oy. What the fuck is with this world? It's sad, really.

Realize that if we had a NAAWP (white people), we'd never hear the end of it. it's reverse discrimination that they can have "black news" stations, but we cant.

Im sick of people. I swear, we really need to start from scratch. I don't know about you guys, but im patiently waiting for the apocalypse ;)

Here is my take on it, not that anyone cares. ;) Anyway, I support freedom of speech and all those, but what bothered me the most in ad campaign is that they purposely provoke people, and then saying it's not their true intention. Yes, their true intention is not a racist message, but causing a controversy. If you thought Nintendo calling their next console, Wii was stupid, these kind of ad campaigns designed to provoke other people while staying in the safe area are too low in my book. Shame on you, Sony, you should be able to sell PSPs without being this low.
