Beta Vlc

Hi,

Thanks sebt3 for porting VLC to the Pandora :)

I use it mostly for streaming radio channels from the Internet, and according to the top command it's easier on the CPU than Audacious for the same job, 10~% vs 30~% CPU usage :)

Could it be your NEON optimizations ?

It uses some more memory though...

Bye, Magic Sam

It's not "my" neon optimisation : I just have some flags set :p
These are set for all my building so Audacious had them too (ok, Some configure script ignore them completly. But that's when the dev "know better than anyone else" and normaly audacious devs dont qualify as such. But as I didnt check so don't quote me on that)

My take on this is : as vlc dev team is mostly french, it's just about french superiority, but then I'm biased :D

on a more serious note, VLC just output what it gets. Audacious tend to filter anything (I'm using the extra stereo-plugin to get that 30% cpu-hit). And even if you have all the plugins disabled, you still have the EQ...

On your request, here's an AVI on the web http://www.starwreck...railer_16x9.avi for instance that won't be played as a network stream by VLC on my Pandora while it does play as a network stream on my PC on the same network. Creating a playlist ASX file for instance results in the same error.

Code:
 Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL
'http://www.starwreck.com/media/sw_imperial_edition_trailer_16x9.avi' Check the log for details

If/once this is fixed, Is there a way to direct a browser directly to VLC after clicking such a link so I can watch AVI streaming instead of having to download it?

I was able to reproduce.
I found out that vlc 1.1.7 was out.
I had a hard time building this (mixied stuff), and it now dont found it qt4 plugin, which doesnt help (no window ;).
I'll need to clean my vlc mess, but that's a bit of job.
So this was just to keep you posted

is there news on your work sebt3?

Thank you to give your free time to port good software on Pandora for US

What he ^ said :)
Hope you found a way to solve this.

Also mp3 doesn't stream btw, PLS files for shoutcast streams give the same error

Tnx for looking into it anyway.

Also not entirely on topic but I figured I could just aswell ask here, how do I make file associations so that video and audio files start- and open in- VLC automatically so that I won't have to start VLC manually and open the file in it?
Does VLC have to be installed on the NAND to make a file association like that permanent?
