Indeed. A crack would generate a pretty negative response among the community, for sure.

How does that deter piracy? Surely the point is to stop people copying it to multiple SD cards and GP2Xs.

the game could check the system informations and start as soon as the gp2x unit is identified as the buyer's.
It deters piracy because I can't imagine anyone who'd really want to buy it in such miserable packaging on a bog-standard SD card, and the only difference between just downloading it and putting it on their OWN card is that they are restricted and not allowed to do it-- even though the card that came out of the 'box' ( ) is just something you could buy on eBay for a pittance.Parkydr posted on Sep 26 2006 at 01:43 AM said:How does that deter piracy? Anyway, all DRM is crap! The only reason a cracked version is unlikely to turn up is the small user base of the GP2X.
You can fake this information easily.baalim posted on Sep 26 2006 at 06:21 AM said:it may be a stupid idea but what about generating a key based on our own gp2x unit number when buying a game.

It is just against what i want. I pay for it but no guaranty i can play it in some years. What happens if i want to play it in 5 years but my card has become defective? Or my Gp2x when the DRM checks the Gp2x-ID.
I think DRM is just a Time-Licence..
What do i have to tell my childs in 15 years about this?
There was a great handheld u could play so many old games with... here see.. but the games specially written for it i cant show u because the DRM.
This is a bit strange because the Gp2x Community is about RETRO gaming. But how should the Gp2x games with DRM be played in some years?
I think in digtal history our time will become a big black hole...
So many crap.. some gems.. but will have no chance to see either the crap or the gems.
Do u have any plans to make it public domain in some years so your work wont be lost in a decade or more?
