    Why have some of the last few posters to this forum ignored the big messages permanently pinned as Important Topics?

    PORTS REQUIRE SOURCE CODE
    If you'd like a game ported to the GP2X,
    make sure it either has full source-code
    available, or a clone of the game exists
    which has full source-code available.

    I'm thinking that not enough people understand what source code means:

    Code written by a programmer in a high-level language and readable by people but not computers. Source code must be converted to object code or machine language before a computer can read or execute the program.

    So, this is source code:

    #include <stdio.h>

    int main() {
    printf("Hello World!\n");
    return 0;
    }

    And this is object code:

    s879SDe!@FOliuf#Q-2-32]]Sv[D]343][FD3sdFSakD

    Now do you see why programmers need source code?

    Well... there is a flash player for GP2X... this game might be a good benchmark for it :)

    As saehn stated, no source code, so it can't be ported. HOWEVER, it should be playable on the GP2X once the Flash Player is improved, and can handle Flash Games.

    So this, and many other games will be playable :)

    Exactly, most of the people here seem to be really flame-hungry though.

    If that really happens, clouds will tear open and shining white light beams will issue forth. Birds will chirp tender melodies of love and joy. Many, many zombies would die by my hands. :D

    OK, I'm going to be working for compatibility and speed for this game.

    I have the SWF, it freezes at start in flash 8 and in fp2x. I know theres a protection system, I'll find a way around it.

    In the meantime, we can fix almost all of our major action script issues as the action script virtual machine has been released for open source projects. And flash player 9 beta for Linux is out! a great stride for Linux fans.

    I will implement this after I get off my lazy ass.

    Yes, that will be difficult. Maybe it will work, maybe not.

    And to those flame hungry, i can post the whole source code to this game if you really don't believe i have it.

    I'd say that it's not a matter of proving anything at all. It's a matter of saving time and showing consideration to the people who actually code for the device. You have source? Great, maybe someone will pick it up and the project will get done in a reasonable amount of time. I hope that happens.

    To address my own original comment: the only intent was to draw attention to the fact that we have posted guidelines for a reason. I don't think I was overly harsh; I explained the issue and gave examples. No insults were made.

    Personally, I'd love to see the SWF player. It will allow for many games like the one cj30sk8r requested. Otherwise, Vampire Baby Freaks will just be another request for a game for which there is no source code. Also: please note that "a game like this" would require original coding ... one giant leap beyond source code.

    So, again... wouldn't the SWF player be great? :D

    I'm trying to make a point that object code can become source code. But of course, flash is in no way creating platform -- or architecture -- dependent code, and theres sure as hell no object code. On behave of the author, i won't post the code unless really needed. On the other hand, I'm working on getting it compatible.

    Speaking of compatibility, I'm really starting to figure out some of the new tags in flash 8. Wouldn't you just love it if adobe loosened up there license agreement, just a bit? With the open sourced AVM and the new flash player for Linux, i would LOVE to see that specification get relicensed. Especially since nobodies competing against adobe really... But then again, relicensing that could create change.

    So far, we can load most Flash 8 shapes. Due to some change in the line tag,i will have to create another parser... So far, i figured out what data is there, but i need to figure out how much of it and where. This is the first time in my life I've used a hex-editor to figure out a data format :D

    However, this game is flash 7. Its action script seems a little odd. A lot of things seem to trip the AVM in here, such as using _root unnecessarily (Although when used properly it seems to work.) The main problem is that it protects you from viewing it outside of there homepage. Which, of course, means i get to hack it :) (And of course, i can't really hack it since 1 of 10 programs work in vista. No flash decompilers do... except for Flasm, and luckily, i can understand some of flash assembly language :) )

    Also i said MAKE one for instence make one from scratch though that would be very hard so yes i see why we need a source code. A SWF player would be brilliant for games like this and many other web games

    I'm not reinventing the wheel. I started off of someone else's gp2x flash player, but i deleted much more than half of there code to update it from its original source and add my own stuff too. Don't get me wrong -- I wouldn't have done it with out them, but I released it with quite some work done.

    Thanks for supporting it. I hope to make this flash player work beyond its own expectations of running small flash 7 games some day, but I have not worked on it a while. Just today i got more things working. Anyways, its great that your showing support anyways. I'll be working hard on getting this program to run games like this. Until then, any programmer can decide to help, but theres a lot of work relating to flash 8 i haven't released yet. I will be trimming it down some as well as weeding the bugs out and adding new features before i decide to release it.

    Anyways, the games really addicting. I'll have to see if i can some cool stuff like this running on our 2x's.

    edit: Oh, and if your interested in the code, this flash player was named as "Flashplayer2x" and often abbreviated to fp2x.
