Everyone who has a Motorola RazR and a GP2X knows that the RaZr uses the same cable for recharging as the GP2X does for the USB-Connection. Did anyone actualy try this? What will that do to your GP2X? (RazR uses the same cable for USB connection too)

I just wondered what would happen, but I rather let somebody else try this out :D

So NoidZ . . . you are saying that the RazR charges through USB?

The GP2X doesn't nor does it get any power from the USB. You are welcome to try it, but an infinitely better use of your time would be finishing your homework.

Even the RazR's headphones could be connected to the GP2X USB-Port :)

That's good news for the ones with a broken headphone jacket :D
what's a headphone jacket?
A jacket with thousands of tiny headphones on it in the colors black and white...

why not make a usb->3.3v cable and then you can power your gp2x from usb...

if anyone would like to post (either here or to the wiki) detailed instructions on how you would go about doing that then I would make one in a flash, it would be usful no end to me

Remove the side you would stick in your GP2X (usb) ten buy a old GameBoy adapter and switch the end of it with the USB cable. I'll try it tomorrow!

I kinda imagined there was a lil more to it than that.. I mean, is the power out from a usb exactally 3.3v 1amp constant? is a pc constantly powering the usb whenever something with a usb socket is plugged in even or does windows need a driver?

although re-reading what you said it sounds like you would plug the usb into the gp2x and the other end of the usb into a power adaptor you would put in a wall.. whats the point? ^^; you could just use a power adaptor normally? ^^;; I'm interested in powering my gp2x FROM my pc, it would stop me having to swap plugs around behind my desk and stuff and i could have my gp2x constantly powered and on whilst devving - one pc usb out->gp2x usb in for terminal/ftp and the other usb out on my pc going to the power socket on my gp2x. that would be hot.

No USB is 5V aat about 500mA if my memory serves me correctly.

The GP2X usb does not pull power , the raw wiring is just not their . That is one of the reasons you can't even host a device over that connection .

THe usb would almost be useless if they did not come out with the usb serial driver .

No need, someone did it already, months and months ago already :)

Not all that hard anyway, just use a power supply IC that makes 3.3v from 4-10volts buffer it with a couple of capacitors.

The guy who made it put it into one of those "eggs" from a vending machine, kinda cool, he used it to run the GP2X while connected to his PC.

Just buy a power adapter, it is much smarter, puts less strain on you PC ports, and is useful wherever there is power, not just around PC's.

P.S. The GP2X can easily draw 1000ma, or 1 AMP, not a good idea to power it from a PC's ports
