Unofficial Bebo Group

I don't know what is it with you and your eagerness to work as some kind of representative for people, neglecting to consider whether you have any real insight into their needs and values or not. You also came forward offering to start a viral marketing campaign etc. Somehow I get the impression that Pandora - or whatever else the focus might be - is secondary to this. Somehow you feel entitled to be an activist, but every now and then you should check what your real position is.

Amen.

No. The Pandora is first. I'm naturally an activist, it's just what I do.
But I just want to help the Pandora see the light of day, I'm just trying to help make it know. Is that so bad? :(

So? Micro$oft did it...
Oh yeah, I forgot that whole 'small company' thing.
I gotcha. But considering how few people use Bebo, the three hundred people who buy a Pandora because of Bebo could be enough to make a few more thousand Pandoras, etc., sort of a domino effect. We tap small markets, we can grow enough to tap big markets.
After all, the entire market is simply a thousand little ones. We take over enough of them, and we're mainstream, you see? Because suppose one in twenty use Bebo. We manage to overtake Bebo, and suddenly, one in twenty is familiar somehow with Pandora. Now, suppose 9 of twenty are on Myspace, Facebook, etc. Well, how many of them have a Bebo?
OK, I'm sorry, a little discombobulated today, I can't get my thoughts together right... But I really hope you get my idea of the mainstream being all those little bits, hope I make sense.

Right...
Only problem is that only 1 in 20.000 use Bebo (or that number is at least more realistic than yours).

I honestly don't know anyone that knows anyone that uses Bebo. In addition to that, the sort of people that would be into the Pandora, aren't likely to be into Bebo.

Know your demographic. Shoving something like this in kids (emphasis on kids as that is Bebo's demographic) faces is just going to generate more negative feelings about the device than positive ones.

As Enverex has succinctly put it, Bebo's demographic is kids. About 2% of those might be interested in Pandora, and exactly none of them will be able to buy one with their paper round money. That said, I can understand what it is that you're trying to achieve, but I think that at best it may just lead to these forums being swamped with 14 year olds posting "iz dis more good than xbox?"

LOL, exactly my point, Xian.
Micro$oft actually made less Xbox 360s than they needed, thus...
I understand your point, Enverex, but on Bebo I don't think we should 'shove it down their throats' so much as we tempt them with little nibbles. Besides, who is paying for these things? Their parents. Thus, if we impress them both...
And I'm really sorry for not being able to explain myself much better, I'm just not doing the best mentally today.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but why would this matter? Being "mainstream" is, I dare say, probably not that important - it's serving the customers' wants and needs that's more important, in my view. :p A lot of "mainstream" stuff does not necessarily do this, and I would guess that this has probably played a part in at least some people's interest in this project.

Now, I'd like to make a suggestion, if I may. :p Perhaps being an "activist" with this isn't the way to go. That energy may be better spent on something such as, say, testing hardware you own with your Pandora once it arrives, and contributing information on that to the wiki or suchlike. Information like that - which will let people finding it know whether their stuff will work with the hardware, and perhaps even be of assistance in a future purchasing decision - is probably more useful in the long run than handing "mainstream"-mimickry to them. ;)

I gotcha- the day I get a Pandora... I'm going buck wild with Youtube videos, blogging about it, talking about compatibility, etc. And I suppose being mainstream is just going to be a wait and see deal. But it'll happen, and I have no problem with kicking it helping it along. It's just because it's so.... revolutionary, our Pandora.

Oh, and I received the following from Craig:

It's now the official group (on Bebo)!

He said he has no objections, he didn't say he supported or backs it.

If you want support from the community, you better adhere to their wishes, even if you don't like it.

Its not like someone is going to go to your site and see "unofficial" and be like "oh, forget this shit, I only read official sites!"

On the other hand, if you have it labeled "official" and you (unintentionally) post wrong information, people will believe it as official and it will ultimately hurt the project and the community.
Example: You are sure you read that the processor can overclock to 900, so you post it on your site. Someone buys the pandora after reading your site and then, once he recieves it, throws a bitch-fit about it not overclocking to 900 when the "official bebo page" clearly states that it does.

Just make it unofficial: problem solved, (most) everyone's happy.

I get your point, so I promise (promise) I'll double check stats, and I will call it unofficial, but will you guys join if I do?
I have the feeling of a no deep in my stomach...

I don't think you have to get rid of it so long as you refer to it as unofficial. What I do want to know is why you want to have it. There aren't enough people who use bebo to even be worth any of the effort, and even the ones who are on bebo and may look at your page will probably not buy it. I think this person who looks like a dyke in his photo has a bebo account, you could send him a pm or something, but I don't know of another person who does use it or would be willing to join.
