United States Purchase

Wouldn't the thing get cheaper a lot of what the Pandora is common components found in many devices example omap processor.

That's the only really common component. Also, there are many different versions of the OMAP, and not as many devices use the same OMAP as the Pandora.

Ram would certainly get cheaper.

The RAM is, for all intents and purposes, part of the OMAP.

Also, keep in mind that most other OMAP-based devices are nowhere near as cheap as the Pandora. The N900, for example (while including a camera, phone, and GPS), is around $500, and Nokia can almost certainly get parts cheaper than the OP team can.

It doesn't matter what each component costs. Openpandora are upping the price and they have every right to if they believe the market will allow it. Don't forget it costs a lot more for OP because of bulk price scaling.

Please do some research/reading on the technologies you are purchasing and not post new topics. Its what every one else has to do and you'll be treated with more respect when you ask a question you cannot answer elsewhere.

All I said was the hardware would get cheaper and it will because there will be newer more powerful stuff next year.

Craig and/or ED have already stated that the second batch will be more expensive to cover the production costs. Most of the parts for first batch were ordered when prices or currency exchange rates were better.

As someone else said, the RAM is part of the processor (the System-on-a-Chip, to be precise), so that won't be getting cheaper. And if you have watched the price of RAM lately, it has more than doubled in the past year.

As others have said, the next batch will in fact be more expensive--so start saving now, and you'll have enough when preorders for that start! ;)

i just sent my mail yesterday and i got response today.

@linuxftw

another rule is to not DOUBLE POST.
next time use edit button.

@thelollypopguild

i believe due to the volume of mails, maybe they have some filters or mail manager.
so try a different subject on the mail.

EDIT:

@linuxftw
just like this.

and btw, they purchase is via Google Checkout, and i recall that GC has a insurance that covers 4 months after the payment
of course if you want to cancel you should ask OP first.

if you are still unsure, well i believe there are no longer any slots left on 1st batch.

Alright, DroneBDev I will try another subject title. Can I ask if you use Gmail? I have tried gmail and yahoo. Thanks for your suggestions thus far.

When you say more expensive, how much more do you think they will go? Are we talking +100? You can't go too high, there is a range you have to stay with a portable system. If it's over 500, you are going to be surprised at the drop in numbers on Round 2. I will save up some more though. :D

Could see myself buying from Gbax.com but I risk buying from foreign distributor his page looks kinda suspicious. However looks like my only option being as the other distributors mentioned have websites in languages that I don't understand. Also I'm not twelve I'm fifteen thought I would clear that up no mean to anger any one was just ranting. I think I will just go with the Gp2x Wiz.

Do you have too much money to spend or something? It seems that you're set on buying something, but you just don't know What. How about ehhh...setting up your own savings account to get through this harsh economical crisis :) !
But no, seriously, don't treat other countries like they're shady suspicious thieves. I could just snap my fingers and spark a flame war on how 'shite' the US is (no, really, they need to stop messing about on an international level)

WHAT?! What!!!11one No United States distributor how the hell am I supposed to buy the damn thing. You know maybe this thing would be popular in the United States. Arggh. Damn will have to import this thing. Is there any plans of Us distributor like gp2xstore.com or Playasia.com.
uh, dude

everyone else in the United States imported it

it's not a big fuckin' deal
I think I will import it when it becomes more of a common device something that doesn't need to be purchased over email in a weird way I can wait on it.
Wait...so you're not buying a unit because you think it is "weird" that you have to e-mail them first? Are you concerned about the security of your payment? Craig & Co. have been a part of this scene for many years and their reputation is rock solid. Or is it really such a hassle (because of your incredibly busy 15-year old life...??) for you to send a single e-mail their way?

You know, the Pandora isn't for "Joe Everybody"...people have waited years for their unit, and you find trouble with the thought of sending an e-mail...I'm getting a feeling it may not be for you, either.

That. +1

Well I just thought the method of purchasing the item was suspicious I don't think people in other countries are suspicious thieves I was just worried about special ordering the device that is all if I have to special order I will special order it ok it is that simple I have no problem with what the devs intend.

As it was previously $330 USD, I couldn't imagine more than $400. There were talks that the increase would be minute(around $10 more) but recently it appears that it will be a bit higher than that. I can't say for sure though!
Keep in mind that for what the Pandora is, $330 is still a steal in my opinion, considering other OMAP devices cost around $400-$500.

You'll probably want to stop your nonsensical rant right there... cause yes, we're all really "shite" over here... Leave that stupid crap to some political board and not here.

Not discussing politics is actually a GP32X rule I believe, but yeah keep it out of Pandora forums at least...

F***king calm down alright I don't intend to start flame war about which country is better even though the U.S. is the best we don't need another flame war in the Pandora boards.
