Tilematch V0.6

That's it :p I could hear the music in the menu, and now I know how to play the music in game aswell. It reminds me of crazy german techno music and I kind of like that tune playing in the background (whether that's a good thing or not is another question).

Maybe you could add a few more tunes for when ingame? You could nick a few from frozen bubble, or some such game if you don't feel like writing your own.

Nice to hear that because I composed that tune. :) I'm a very big fan of Kraftwerk and some electropop music.

I'm not planning to add music for the ingame, but in a (near?) future, I'll add themes so everyone will be able to change graphics, music and sounds. Maybe it's not very useful for a game like Tilematch but, well, I just want to try it. Telengard, the author of Gp2xmess, is going to send me some "8 bit" sounds for the animals, and he once told me about composing a tune for it (Telengard, if you read this, are you interested yet? :)).

Great work miq01. One slight problem I am having in game is that I hear no music :( I remember the first time I played 0.5 there was some in-game music playing in the background, but after I that every time I played Tilematch I didn't get any music. With the latest version I still don't get any music, even though I have deleted all of the tilematch folders off my SD card.

Any help would be appreciated as I really liked that stuff in the background :(

Same here

5465756e, do you mean that you can't hear ingame music? If so, please read my answer to Javacat.

Btw, 5465756e, your nickname makes me realise how useful the copy&paste feature is... :p

Ok, that will probably solve it then. I'll let you know if it works. Thanks.

:D Actually it should be 0x5465756e

Edit: In propper © code that would be more like: char name[] = {0x54, 0x65, 0x75, 0x6e} . And that is missing the string delimiter ;)

Hiya miq01,

Hehe, I'm interested, yup. :)

I plan on working on a tune once I'm done w/ this music competition I'm in (ends feb 28th). I even put two chiptunes on the album so I'm in that "8 bit" frame of mind. :)

Also will resume work on gp2xmess after that. :) :) :)

telengard, miq01: What software do you use to compose funky 8-bit tunes? And do you know somewhere where you can get good samples from? (not necessarily just 8-bit ones).

That's great news, Telengard. :) Good luck with that music competition!

I'm using FL Studio with some VST plugins. But there probably are sequencers specifically thought for 8-bit tunes.

I don't use samples for my songs. The only website I know of is The Freesound Project? They have a nice search function.

Btw, if you want 8 bit tunes, there's plenty of them in the 8bitpeoples website.

woot! Thanks. The 8bitpeoples site looks interesting.

I'll have a play with the demo of FL Studio, but I don't think I'd get enough use out of it to spend actual currency on it.

hum.... don't know if it will interest someone but...

YEAH ! i've reached level 39 :D (2.400.000 points and 75minutes game).

Thanks to miq01 for this game and thanks to FluffyPanda to share your scores ; when you post your wife's score, i wasn't able to go over 8000 points so it gave me a great challenge :)

btw, since it's my first post here, hello to the gp32x community ;)

Yep, that fixes it.

miq01, I am planning on writing a puzzle game for the GP2X. Could I have the Tilematch source code as reference / example? (Btw. no I am no good at Spanish ;) )

Don't worry, my code is in Catalan, not Spanish... though I guess that won't help either... :)

Yes, I can sent it to you. But as Fluffy Panda knows, it's quite a mess so I wouldn't take it as an example on how to make puzzle games at all. In fact, I wouldn't take it as an example on how to code anything... :D My excuse is that it's been my first game ever.

But anyway, if you want it, send me a PM with your e-mail address.

actually, I didn't find it particularly unreadable. Obviously I couln't follow a word of the catalan myself, but your handy translations sorted that out.

Would you mind sending me your latest version? And did you finish adding skin support or should I have a go at doing that for you? I don't really want to steal your project from you, but if I can help you in any way I'd be happy to.

Hi fluffypanda,

I use ableton live (and sometimes energyxt) and a few plugins like quadrasid and the sound chip from the Atari ST (forget it's name).

As for samples, I'm not big on that myself. I either do rock type stuff w/ regular instruments or chip tunes.

Just wanna 2nd 8bitpeoples, lots of great stuff on there. There is also the High Voltage SID stuff and there is an equivalent Atari 800 archive also. Thousands of old school tunes. :)
