snes was miles better!

better gfx, the gen was dark and mucky, snes nice and bright.

more swish features, mode7 3d chips and such, the gen had ummm a thing that let you play knuckles in the sonic games.

sound, the genesis sounded like a modem connecting to the internet and couldn't do voices properly, the snes was an ocestra.

better games snes had classics, gen had a game sponcered by mcdonalds.

I always thought the PSX pads were basically Snes pads with bits sticking out. Strange to adore one yet hate the other
yes the original psx pads were scum and cheap - like the snes pad. BUT the dual shocks were on another level.......they were well made (apart from when you chucked them on the floor a lot the analogue sticks got fucked up), the buttons were nice and responsive and felt good to press and your hand fitted around it perfectly. The psx pads are and will be the best pads ever.
HAHAHA, u make me laugh, the dual shcks are:

1.) A rip off of N64

2.) WAAAAAAAAAAAY too sensitive

3.) Loose

4.)Not in an ergonomic place

5.) Just put on for the sake of competition, and kept on for the sake of not wanting to b embarressed wen they changed them and everyone realises that the original ones were bad

I's commonly known (or at least i think it is that SONY knew the DUALshocks were not excellent, and had the option to change them, but they didnt want it to look like they had made a mistake, so they didnt

JUST PLAY A GAMECUBE, URE HANDS WILL HAVE AN ORGASM

Mega drive, it was the most succesful and the best console tech wise AND has more good games.

Did ya just not see the NEO-GEO?

Am I the only one who think 70-30% is surprising *not* ass-whooping? After all, the SNES is clearly the most advanced console, yet 30% of people prefer the Megadrive.

That's pretty good going! I quite like both of them, but the SNES is such a pain from an emulation point of view that I kind of prefer the Megadrive
Not my words, I was paraphrasing someone else earlier in the thread. However I'd say 70-30 is pretty much an ass-whopping!

I don't know how you can say the SNES was clearly more advanced, they were on sale at the same time and it was only the later SNES games that looked a lot better than Mega Drive games.

Considering that the Mega Drive outsold the SNES handsomely in the UK (where the majority of this board are from), I'd say that shows quality wins out in the end. :p

Oh, and I love Dual Shocks.

SNES for the RPGs, though I've a feeling I may end up playing Genesis somewhat more on the GP; more games you can just pick up then put aside...

Ah yes I forgot about the dual shock pads on the PSX. My bad. I had a Saturn at the time and was enjoying Street Fighter Alpha with all the buttons in the right place. ;) PSX pads are decent for everything else though I admit.

It's funny all the anti Mega Drive/Genesis posts here after all the praise to GigaDrive (rightly so mind). The Mega Drive/Genesis seemed rather popular then.

Not really, e.g. - I think the SNES is better than the Megadrive.

However - on the GP32 the SNES doesn't run anywhere near fullspeed, and the Megadrive does, so on the GP32 the Megadrive is much more fun to play - hence it's the more popular console

In fact that probably explains why a marginally inferior console got 30% of the vote here!

Oh, and I love Dual Shocks.

Much as I love the Megadrive, the SNES is much more advanced. The most noticable aspect are the colours (32768 colours).

Also the fact that there are 4 separate scrolling backgrounds versus 2. The sound is generally better on the SNES too, though 'different' and simpler is probably a fairer way to put it. SNES is entirely sample-based - SNES is to Megadrive what MOD is to MIDI.

While the MD has rowscroll (best described as the floor in SF2), the SNES goes one further and has Mode 7, a mode where you can rotate, stretch, sheer and even with care project the background. Hence Mario Kart, something the MD could not do.

Whereas the MD has shadow and hilight, the SNES took it one stage further and had transparency.

Where the SNES is inferior is in core brain power - about 3Mhz instead of 7.67mhz on the MD. However it doesn't take much processing power to move sprites around on a screen, so Nintendo's choice of games hides this weakness very well.

Mega drive, it was..... the best console tech wise
Wow, it's like people have this complete inability to understand that there's these things called "facts".....
It is a fact, the megadrive was much faster then the SNES, this is plain to see in multi format games where the megadrive one would be much better then the SNES one.
There was no console clear cut better in all areas (I believe the SNES had better memory hence all its RPGs) though all roud the mega drive was the better.

Heh, ok I'll bow down to your obviously superior knowledge!

Anyway the PS2 is more advanced then the SNES and I still prefer Nintendo's little box of wonders so that's not really the issue.

<- Need I say more?
Little L?..... I dont get it.

I voted snes because it has kick as rpgs and better versions of bomberman
and it has better hardware
V. Funny....Little L is from a Jamiroquai song and means 'little love' anyhoo, I don't care about the hardware or the effects that either machine could produce, I just rate them on their ability to entertain me software wise. Had I come across the SNES first I'm sure that it would be much higher up on my list of favourites.....hmm, might buy one today actually.

its just your stats are wrong, megadrive had better sound . Thats funny.

I dont remember mentioning sound but i often read the posts drunk too so i understand.

I never said in didn't like snes just that i prefered gen.And that in general the uk prefered it too.sales figures dont lie.And i only remember a few people here owning snes until much later on.Actually I was more of an amiga fan.

And on the gamepad issue sony dual shock pads simply are the best ever made.I tried playing medal of honor on an xbox the other day and could have taken a hammer to it in frustration.I had considered getting one but that really put me off.The console may be better than ps2 but the pads make it unpleasant to play fps compared to ps2's dual stick method for movement/straffe.

How can microsoft make the same mistake sega made with dreamcast pads? which were also bad beyond belief. And before any one starts i have and love a dreamcast i just hate the pads.

I actually quite like the Xbox pads (the original ones) and the Dreamcast pads. My hands are rather large though. Worst pads I've had on a system were the 3DO pads on the FZ1. They looked the part but the Dpad part was too clunky and the daisy chaining was weird (although each person had an earphone socket - I guess that was for married couples who don't actually converse with each other??). The N64 pad was quite responsive although it looked like a space fighter.

Note:

I'm still waiting for an Atari Jaguar which I won on ebay 2 weeks ago - I think that may have the worst pad ever but I won't judge it till I've tried it (if the $£%^er ever arrives).
