Test the keymat!

ok so i got the key mat yesterday and opened it up today at work to show some IT guys what its going to look like. So far they think its going to be sweet and will be ordering one. only thing i notices is that the keys will stick once and a while so far, other than that i love it.
my 1 question is whats up with all the stickers in the box? is there something ive missed.
also who is from omaha here? i saw that it was sent to a omaha address before i got it and its ironic that we live on the same street somewhat

The stickers were there when I got it - see above posts.

As for Omaha, that would be me - and would explain why you were supposed to be the next in line before @second exodous - before we flipped things to get it to him in time. Somewhat ironic that I was waiting days for ED to give me the next address - and it could have potentially been just handed off.

I know we're on page 18, but you might want to roll through the last few pages. At this point, part of the fun is to figure out if anything new has been added to the box.

Thinking about what Grench said, it might be fun to have some indecipherable figures. I truly enjoy making up my own meaning for them, and sometimes others get in on the fun. If I make some of these stickers I think I will put them on the bottom.

@mecksg1, we discussed those stickers already. If you see some you like or a cause you support I think you are supposed to take and use them. Also, I used to live on an Omaha St. Not as cool as having the same street name, if it is an uncommon street name...or maybe I am misunderstanding what is going on (are you guys neighbours?).

I'm not sure. @mecksg1 has my address from the package and could tell how far we live apart. I don't have his address.

So, neighbor, any pictures to post up? Comments? Is the Pyra case & keyboard prototype still with you or did you send it on to it's next destination?

It has arrived safely in California, I'll be taking pictures over the weekend to upload and such, then I'll need Neelix's address so I can assess my shipping options to Australia.
It's good to hear that the postal systems around the world have all been working well. It's really fun tracking the keypads around.

Reminds me of someone who was sending postcards to their grandfather, from around the world, with photos of a garden gnome in many different countries.

Said gnome was the same one that had mysteriously "disappeared" from the relative's garden.

Whats with the tape? What are my upload limits for images?

I really like the keyboard so far, but the keys seem a little too flat for my taste.

Whats with the tape?

This is something that has been mentioned a few times on this thread. It was a temporary fix to make the new keypad fit better with the older case, so they don't wobble or stick as easily. The case is a hybrid of older versions, so there won't be the same issue with the final version.

What are my upload limits for images?

Only one way to find out. ;-)

Seems there haven't been any updates lately on the itinerant keymats. Crossing the Pacific are they?

If it is coming to the likes of south america...you can expect a (true)2 month time and a random charge from the customs...

So let me get this straight: The package was probably sent to the bottom half of the planet and now we don't know what happened to it? I have a guess...

So I walk into the house this morning and get told that I've received a package. This leaves me momentarily mystified as I wasn't actually expecting anything. (xrandr took my delivery details but neglected to mention to me that the package was on it's way) My mystification wasn't helped by the size of the box which is quite a lot larger than I would have been expecting.

It didn't take me long to figure out what it had to be though, and sure enough when I opened the box I found... a smaller box, and a bunch of packing filler. So I opened the smaller box and found.... A plastic snake! :) (and of course the keymats and sample unit) The smaller box is the one that has been mentioned several times in this thread previously.

My first impression is that the plastic caps mean that the keys are a lot closer together than I expected them to be, and not being able to press the shoulder buttons made it hard to get a feel for how it it will feel for how it will feel to chord them with the keyboard as modifiers. That said, I really like how the keys feel when pressed. There is no lingering doubt as to whether the key made contact with the board, which was always my main issue with the Pandora keyboard.

As previously mentioned I think this calls for a pub meet at the Melbourne Central Lion. The only question in my mind is when. Friday or Saturday afternoon/evening works for me. Does anyone in Melbourne with an interest in seeing the test unit have a preference?

If anyone else checks it out and didn't have an account, let usknow their thoughts. If not, try not to let it get too drunk before its next leg of the trip, as we wouldn't want it getting lost.

Do you feel the key closeness will be a problem for regular typing?

The front fell off?
I thought the package fell off, maybe into orbit. I was thinking we might need someone at the ISS to grab it, and (after testing it out) get it back down here to the next person. ED needs to gift the ISS with a Pyra and an SD card with some games and software.

The ISS hovers ABOVE the earth, the pyra would have fallen from the ridge BELOW the earthplate! How, for God’s sake , could the ISS ever grab it?! That’s completely unlogisch! Get your phisigs right man, honestly...

BTW: does the package come to Vienna/Austria (again)? If yes, would the lucky receiver plan a meetup then?
