I was ok with vi on there zaurus
but there must be something better, if not specifically fur such devices.
i prefere windows notepad via wineI am generally a vim user, but I am considering EMACS because ESCAPE-META-ALT-CONTROL-SHIFT actually seems a reasonable combination on the Pyra as it has shoulder buttons/keys.

Eclipse is a bloated crapware, no one should use that. if you're going with Java solutions, I'd suggest jEdit or Netbeans.geany kate eclipse idle just pick one
