Well, you can without having a fb account, but meh, I still think it is too complicated and could be easier. I still don't get why StreaK needs to complicate the process like that.

Just for "views" or "likes"?

Come on...

I have my own reasons. Dont like FB?, oh well.. what can i say? If any of you saying "its waste of time to dig up FB to find software", i could only say "its waste of time to release it for any of You, then". Is this sounds fair?

No, as you don't seem to get the point.

And the examples you make have nothing to do with each other imho.

someday , from some point all releases will be on my webpage [which i dont have time to finish , now], so FB only..

the example shows only that i'm pay my free time to release something to community, and if there's doubt about my choice of distribution of soft [some might say FB is crap] and refuse to use it, it only says that he is not enough determined to use this software = means dont care about using it..

I dont really care about software collectors [that downloads soft and dont really use it], in opposite to that - i care about real software users and interaction between me and them [thats why i included so many requested apps to cli love like tmux, tor and more..], and FB is literally best to accompilsh the task. end of story.

Edit:

And the last word. Believe me, if some of You care about USING app, not only DOWNLOAD & COLLECT, FB will be no problem...

This argument is stupid. Obviously, if StreaK does the work, he can put the results wherever he wants.

But StreaK, you have to recognize that you're creating a usability issue here, and raging against hypothetical "software collectors" does you no service (I've heard of one such person on these boards, and limited storage space means collecting software on Pandoras and not using it is probably not a popular hobby). You want your software to be usable, right? Well, the way that people obtain and update software is part of its usability. And the less usable software is, the less people will want to use it.

For example, you wouldn't deliberately cripple a program's UI unless you had a really good reason for it. Even if you did have a good reason for it, you would expect that some people could not live with the crippled UI and would stop using the program. They would probably also tell you so. And if you did have a really good reason to cripple the UI, you would have to accept that loss of users.

Package management is another part of overall usability. You are making package management more difficult for your users, so your software is less usable and will have fewer users. I'm not sure why all your software goes on Facebook, but I'm sure you have a reason. But no matter what that reason is, you have to accept that you'll lose some users as a result. And preferably, you shouldn't get upset whenever they tell you so.

Fortunately, if you're working on a site of your own, you should be able to improve package management usability, at least when compared to Facebook. I'm sure that will gain you some users and reduce complaints. If you wanted, you could even implement the repository spec so your users could receive automatic updates. So even if you're committed to staying off of the official repo, a few changes can make your software much more usable.

I just wanted to bring up the fact that I couldn't download software for the Pandora using Firefox 9 on the Pandora via Facebook. I tried Lightweight & Chromium too and no good.

I had to download CLI Love on my MAC and put it on an SD card, same thing with MAME Ex.

I'm not hating on your work, I'm just not enjoying the experience of accessing it. Considering the Logic board was fried in my MAC likely since I bought it, sometimes even this process could be painful because the Logic board usually recognized an inserted SD card, but sometimes I'd have to eject and reinsert 20 times just to get the SD card to be write accessible.

Then when you release an update, things like .PND Store make life easy in this regard for things in the repo.

Lastly, Facebook is the CIA, only Goldman Sachs hedgefund owners can invest into this corporation, and all of Goldman Sachs' investors only count as one person. Do you really want your valued software in the hands of Corporations Invisible Army and the banking elites? I'm sure you are giving up the rights to it just by posting it on the site, maybe I'm wrong here, but just trying to argue a broader point than people not wanting to use this media as it is controlled by some of the very interests that the Open Source community may not agree with.

I use Facebook to advertise my political views, so that by doing so, I can feed the beast its own tail.

Look forward to seeing your own site someday.

It is perfectly fair to criticize the deployment location of any developer that posts in the software release section of forums. I bet all the "He can do what he wants because he's a dev" crowd would be whistling a different tune if the links to download led to crawling through a bunch of virus-laden Russian porn sites. Facebook's Javascript obesity problem is just as bad IMHO.

i think streak is quite heroic, he goes beyind the 'typical' porter (in no way am i denigrating 'typical' porters) and actually tries to initiate support e.g.his thread on how to use cli love app, how he manages to keep eye on openpandora boards and facebook and whatever no of other forums i am sure he is a member of is beyond me!

keep up the good work streak!

Don't get me wrong, I think he was a fabulous developer when he rocked the repo with his incessant ports. I just miss him, since I haven't seen a software release from him in a long time. (I don't download anywhere but the repo.)

Well, I would also prefer to use only the Repo... and Facebook just seems to rub me up the wrong way - find myself using it only when I have no other way of contacting a person... otherwise i just ignore it mostly.

But I certainly wouldn't want to miss out on any of StreaK's ports... So I go to the trouble. One of these days I'll have to read his whole wall just to see if I've missed any gems.

I look forward to his site going up, and if his ports are only available there and not on the repo I won't mind. In fact I wouldn't mind searching a number of sites for software... I just have a big issue with multiple sites listing different versions of the same PND. Oh, and I *will* refuse to use sites that do not have support for resuming downloads as I have such a slow connection where I live.
