I don't know about you guys but I would really like to be able to put a password on my Pandora. Just so no one other than me can access it (there are many geeks in my house). That was the problem with my DS. Half the time i couldn't find it.

It's certainly possible.

Its sounds like a good idea but, I think a you would need is a simple program and an auto run for whAT your talking about. For incripting data and other stuff like that may be another story.

And then they remove the sd cards....
It's doesn't matter if they remove them cause it's no use to them. The oldest is only 12 and only knows how to play games, I would doubt it if he knew how to take one out and use it in something else.

And if he doesn't know how to use an SD card, just how is he a "Geek"

Don't underestimate someone technical aptitude due to age. By the time I was 12 I was programming on my Amiga.

Around our house a geek plays video games, it doesn't really count if it's just electronic.

so you want to hide porn on your Pandora?

im not sure about how the OS on the Pandora is going to be arranged, but im certain Linux has a password feature on the shell, before it launches X-windows (if you have it set up to do that).

im not very savvy with Linux, ive only ran it a few times on my system.

im sure if the Pandora team wanted to impliment a password feature, it would look nicer than a plain black DOS-esque shell password (sorry guys im a linux newb, dont know what to call it)

Sounds like a good idea.

OT: What's with the thread title? "Start up, click to find out"?

Please make your thread titles a bit more descriptive. Also, you don't need to include a subtitle; it's optional.

How about encryption? I'd love to be able to carry my email and notes around with me and not worry about someone getting their hands on it. The eeepc is very nice but it just doesn't fit in my pocket :)

Entirely possible. You could encrypt a partition on an SD card and keep stuff there. No one must know that your card is actually double what it reads on most computers :D

Encryption would be just the thing. No one could get at the software without knowing the impossible-to-discover password. The hardware itself couldn't be protected (we've already discussed this) but the software and data contained within would be locked up tight.

I would never use this myself, but I could see the reasons why people would want it.
