Yes, but it's been the majority of my life, so I'm working with a small sample size.
Edit: I like how that woman can re-light trick candles by flashing them. So well-animated, too.

I got a Dreamcast a couple weeks ago. I discovered SBI. I'm now happy. :p
The PS2, I must say, did something to the industry like the NES did... so long ago. Having it advertised on Oprah didn't hurt either.
But it was successful, in part I think, for DVD playback, and a couple other features (including affordability!)
For that, a hat's off.

Heh, Sega ads were so obnoxious. I know a lot of companies focus on blemishing the competition in their advertising but in the console gaming world I can't think of anyone who has done this even remotely as much as Sega. From their "Genesis does what Nintendon't" commercial, to the whole "Blast Processing" campaign that was pretty much made up on the spot.. not to mention their anti-GB commercials - what was it again, "cream spinach colored" display, followed by a bunch of bleeps and bloops? The latter part was pretty funny since GameGear had worse audio than Gameboy :D

I wonder who's going to take their place with aggressive ads now? Sony?

Sega's been out of the hardware market for like ten years now and none of the big three console manufacturers have been that aggressive in comparison.

I'm hoping that Sony takes that place... We need more aggressive ads.

Man, PS2 is ten years old? This makes me feel really old.

EDIT: PS2 games are still coming out aren't they? Does that mean that the PS2 has had the longest life span of any other console?

I suppose PC doesn't count as a console?
Edit: actually, if Amiga counts as a console, shouldn't PC count too?

Computers as consoles have been debated before and is usually resolved like this: Microsoft doesn't require special software for writing programs, anyone can do it. Also, Microsoft doesn't collect any royalties form software on their systems. On top of that Windows 7 isn't windows 95, it changes, you can't install current games on a windows system that is 10 years old, it just isn't fast enough and windows changes over time also. A game made for the PS2 that is released today will play just as well on one that was released the opening day as one you buy today.

Computers are always advancing were consoles are a snapshot of technology, basically static.

EDIT: Yep, This game for PS2 hasn't even been released yet. I guess it's still alive and kicking.

With regard to PC vs. console, I do, honestly prefer console for gameplay, since it seems more... Dedicated, and optimized, really.
But PC has a couple advantages with regard to stuff like development.

I have to agree with you, I have spent much more time playing games on consoles over PCs so they would have to be my favorite in that respect. I think PC games are a lot more fun, Half Life, Quake, Doom, Medal of Honor, RPGs like the Elder Scrolls series. I just realized that I just listed all first person shooter games and those just are not done well at all on consoles. So for me everything besides first person shooter games are better on console. PCs hold me back from saying they are better just because it seemed every game I ever wanted to play on my PC required an upgrade of some sort and windows was always slow or infected with something. I never had that problem on my consoles, just insert game and go when it comes to consoles.
