Snes Emu Question

Pilotwings used to be playable on the Gp2x on the older versions of Pocketsnes released by me, I think at some point a change has been made which has screwed the performance up does anyone have the source code for the Wiz version I could maybe have a look to see if I can find where things went wrong.

Please please please tell me you're still considering perfecting PocketSNES on the Wiz :)

Please? :)

Nope, I was just surprised to hear Pilotwings was running so slowly when I can remember completing it on the Gizmondo. I have no intention to do any further work on Pocketsnes.

Cripes! Is anyone? :(

Anyway, pilotwings is running in PocketsnesFast if you turn off sound hack and if you use PAL version you get around 20 frames.

Some hours ago Headoverheels knowing about your petition Reesy has released the source:

http://www.gp32spain.com/foros/showpost.php?p=1037880&postcount=113

Ahh excellent, thanks. I've compared this source against mine and the possible cause of the performance problems is the DSP1EMU.C source file. If someone where to take a copy of DSP1EMU.C from one of my releases ( http://reesy.gp32x.de ) and replace the one is HeadOverHeels's version you should find pilotwings runs alot quicker...however some other games may run slower ( not confirmed this, I'm just guessing )

In the meantime I'll try to cobble together a wiz toolchain and build a *hack* version myself.

Later
Reesy

Well must of that went over my head, but if you were to make a 'Pilot Wings' version (why not have 2 verisons of the emu!?) that would be soooo great!

Thanks very much :)

Headoverheels is niw wirking on FBA for Wiz, someday he will go back to PocketSNES.

I've downloaded the Wiz toolchain, applied the patch to the source code and compiled a new version. I don't have a wiz so could someone tell me if the following works and more importantly if Pilotwings is any faster.

http://reesy.gp32x.de/pocketsnes_wiz.zip

Thanks

Tried running it via launcher, locks up on the loading screen with the circle dots. I don't think the dots even move before the crash.

Glad to see progress though!

Thanks for trying it. Does the emulator fail to load any roms or is it just Pilotwings which hangs? There's much I can do without being able to debug it, the only thing I could do is compile it for the GP2X and hope it crashes in the same place.

Just in case anyone with Wiz hardware wants a go....

Source code is here
http://reesy.gp32x.de/pocketsnes_wiz_sa1.zip
I had to make a few minor changes here and there and I completely replaced dsp1emu.c with a version from an old release of pocketsnes.

I used the toolchain from here to build it

EDIT

GP2X version runs fine, however I only get 10-15 fps (with MMUhack on) so looks like the patch doesn't make much difference. I'm sure it used to run faster than that but I'm getting old so whatever ;)

the emu hangs as soon as you try to load it...you get the loading 'blank screen with circle' that just hangs.

Please let this HeadOverHeels guy know how much I appreciate the PocketSNES project not being dead and I will gladly donate. And thank you Reesy for making those adjustments.

Seriously if I can someday play FF6 with transparencies on, full frames, no vertical tearing, and near-perfect sound, then the Wiz will be the greatest purchase I ever made (next to my house and 3 legged cat). :)

I don't expect to ever see full frames from psychotic games like Stunt Race FX (which was like 10fps on the SNES itself) but the PocketSNES emu is sooooo close to being perfect it's such a shame to have it die at this point in time. The Wiz screen is just way too perfect to say "the hell with it; we'll wait for Pandora". I'm psyched as hell! Thanks for all the hard work, guys.

Maybe someone can contact this guy "SiENcE" regarding the work he's done to the snes9x dingux port he's been adding to? He has Rudra No Hihou working now.
