Hey everyone

My GP32 has started failing to read any SMC cards. I thought initially that I may have wiped a file off the smc card but it flashes up with the same SMC error message whichever card I now use.

Is this a problem which can be fixed simply or do I need to purchase another machine?

Thanks in advance

Yeah

I tried that and no joy at all. I have a real feeling that its the card reader inside the machine itself that has gone wrong. I was wondering if anyone has come across this problem before.

How did you format the card?

If you did it in XP it will be incorrectly formatted as it will not use the FAT file system that the GP32 will recognise. If you have have a card reader then use this tool (SMC Recover) to format your card correctly. :)

You then just need to create the following folders,

GPMM
GPSYS
GAME
GPETC
MOVIE
MP3

You'll then be good to go :D

Back up your SMC regulary to your PC, if and when you do encounter a corruption, you can just format your SMC and copy all the files and folders back and carry on as normal, works for me. B)

Thanks Neo Stuey

I will try this tonight. I do have a backup copy of both memory cards on my pc but when I tried to reload everything back on to the card, it made no difference. The reason I'm pretty sure its the GP32 itself is because for a while now it flashed up with the error message when I turned it on, then when I took the card out and put the SMC card back in again it loaded with no problem whatsoever.

It was only last night when it failed to load both smc cards on every occasion that I got really concerned. The problem may be caused because I have to take the SMC card out of the GP32 every time I want to add any more items onto the card via a card reader. I lost the USB cable 6 months ago when I moved house.

Hmm anyway finger crossed...!

If by machine you are talking about another GP32, I'd try buying a new SMC card first!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mabye the one you are using now is "corrupt." It's certainly a lot cheaper to buy another SMC card than it is to buy another GP32, good luck, H.G.

lol, if a card is corrupt you don't have to buy a new card...

Exactly my point, format the card and reinstall the apps, but don't buy another card unless it totally fails, and by that I mean not being recognised on any devices, card readers etc......, memory cards should by the most part outlast the usefulness of the machine that they were originally purchased for.

Rainbow Islands: "The game is sometimes called "Bubble Bobble 2". However, two other games --"Bubble Symphony: The Story of Bubble Bobble 2" and "Bubble Bobble 2"-- claim the same name. Rainbow Islands happens after Bubble Bobble. Bubble Symphony happens after Bubble Memories, which is called Bubble Bobble 3, so Bubble Symphony is really Bubble Bobble 4 or 5. Bubble Bobble 2 also happens after Bubble Memories, so it is either Bubble Bobble 4 or 5. Bubble Symphony's song titles, which refer to Bub and Bob as "Grandfather", are true, then Bubble Symphony is Bubble Bobble 5 and Bubble Bobble 2, which features Robby, the "son", is Bubble Bobble 4. But then again, the intro of Bubble Symphony refers to Bubby and Bobby as the children of Bub and Bob, so Bubble Symphony is Bubble Bobble 4".

Trooper, I just read your sig and now my head hurts!!!............... goes for a lie down.

I'm having a problem with my SMC card aswell, can anyone help?

I could do with a Windows XP USB Driver fro the GP32, has anyone got one as windows does'nt recognise my GP32 Blu. I would format the SMC with the formatter program but it keeps coming up with an error so i need to try it thru GP Manager which i have already installed. Can anyone help please.

You could try using a diffrent device if you have one e.g. i got a problem like that so i used my digital camera. gp32_console

There are some USB drivers listed, the 2k ones should be okay in XP, if you have the cd-r that comes with the GP32 there should be USB drivers on that. I can't find mine at the moment otherwise I could have hosted the USB driver from it.

I put one file in the "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS" folder but still nothing. Could someone please help me, as i'm a total noob.

You could try either of these drivers here, As i have noticed that ED does not have the XP DDK drivers (the bottom ones) on his archive (Which are the ones i used to use before getting a card reader).

Download them ( try the XP DDK ones first) and extract them to a folder, Enter the folder you extracted them to and right click the gp32usb.inf file and select install. There should be a little bit of activity as windows installs the drivers.

You could always follow the guide here too.

http://207.44.176.77/~admin28/gp32emu/faq/faq.htm#USBInfo

Scroll down to "USB Drivers Information" halfway down the page.

Btw, You don`t say which version of the GP32 you have, Is it a Nlu (non lit unit) a Flu (front lit unit) or a Blu (back lit unit), Also, What appears on the screen when you switch the machine on ?.

Thanks for getting back to me, I downloaded and installed the GP32 USB Driver xp ddk and installed it, win xp can now recognize my gp32, but when I went to connect it to the gp manager,I get an error message saying:
"an error occurred in GP32 during process."

I can get into the gp manager screen but when I try to access a function(like formating the smc card) I always get timed out.

My gp32 also is hanging on the pc-link screen sayng:
"Now waiting"

I have the gp32 blu+ model and the screen looks like this:

Please help me out.
Thanks.

I`ve never used GP manager, But have heard people having a lot of problems with it.

Try pclink instead, This is what i used to use before i got a card reader.

PCLink

Btw, Try starting pclink before you connect Your GP32 to the computer and putting it into link mode. If that does not work, Try connecting the GP32 and putting it into link mode before starting pclink. If that still does not work, Try connecting the GP32, Then starting pclink, Then put the GP32 into link mode.

If that still does not work, Post back here.

Sorry for all the fannying above, It`s been a while since i connected any of my GP32`s to the usb port (That if i can find the cable ). As you can see, It can take a bit of fiddling around to get things working.

Trooper

I downloaded and installed the pclink, tried all you suggestions and still get the same error screen:

"an error occurred in GP32 during process."

The pclink screen shows up just like the gpmanager does and I still get timed out and my gp32 still hangs on the:

"Now waiting" screen.

I also tried using the other usb 2003 ddk driver too and still the same result.

Do you think that my smc card may be corrupted?

Btw, I also pre-ordered a gp2x with a multi card reader too, can't wait to get the card reader.

Please advise,
Thanks again.

Try going to the device manager (right click "my computer" and select properties, Then click the hardware tab, Then the middle right button "device manager").

Have a look in there and see if a yellow exclamation mark appears when you connect your GP32 ?.

If so, Right click it and select uninstall, Then re-install the drivers and try pclink again.

If you still get no luck, It`s probably best to wait for your card reader.

Have you not played anything on the GP32 yet ?. If not, You are in for a REAL treat. :D

Hope all goes well, And good luck.
