Personally it doesn't bother me too. The fact that they go down sometimes is more disturbing, but they are quite stable lately.

The only things that bother me is the broken links and the temporarily disabled new files list on the front page. Other than that, it's pretty much BAU for the rest of the board.

My comfy chair in front of the tv has a few holes in it, And it squeaks every so often
when i shift around in it to get comfortable, But i`m not about to throw it in the skip
anytime soon, To replace it with a new one.

This chair has got years of life left in it, And i will be sitting in it until it collapses, So there.

*/Puffs up cushion, And snuggles deeply into said chair/*

Ahhh, This is the life. :)

I will liken this whole issue to my own job. I work for a credit union. Credit unions are sort of the financial institution equivalent of the open source model. Without management, there would be very little that credit unions could accomplish, and therefore somebody has to manage it.

You could say that because I get paid to help manage my credit union, this makes me biased towards my credit union and that I would want other credit unions to fail. This is simply not true. Competition is always a healthy thing. It keeps my credit union on its toes. I do not want other credit unions to fail. We all work together in some ways and the end result is a stronger credit union community.

The same is true for the Pandora and the GP/GPH products, and particularly this site. The management -- Hando -- has failed. We need new management. Since there is no other options, a new site must be created.

To say that the creators of the Pandora wouldn't want to see a Wiz get sold because that is one fewer Pandora sale is based upon flawed logic. It's easier money for ED/CraigIX to sell a GPH product than it is their own since all they have to do is resell them. This sort of argument is the same thing as saying that a PSP sale is a lost sale for a BlackBerry. They both have some common ground, but they're not the same exact target market.

I do not personally fear that the new boards will be unfriendly to the Wiz or any other open handheld. I would expect quite the contrary.

So what it all boils down to is this: If you don't like the move, don't go. If you understand and agree that this is inevitable anyway, please join us. These forums always were for GP/GPH products anyway, and the new forums will be for all open handhelds, both those in existance now and those that will come in the future.

See you on the other side.

Personally, I feel like that if Craigix wants to move the Pandora forum somewhere else then fine, let him. It doesn't stop there being a Pandora forum here.

However, I don't think Chip has any authorisation to post "We are Moving!" as news, as he is not the owner of this board. Instead, he should post that the official Pandora forums are moving away from here and will be elsewhere. He should not attempt to move the GP32/GP2X, etc forums.

Afterall, people will join and post where there like, he certainly has no authorisation to state where they should post.

If these forums die, then people will obviously move elsewhere, whether that forum is the official ones, or other forums supporting the consoles this board does.

Doesn't bother me too...
Let's wait for Hando to react.

I totally agree with that.

Also he posted it to the frontage at least 4 times, i deleted the duplicates.
I also renamed this thread, he named it back.

Chip has acted well above his station. DCGM was right on this one, the Rico incident was nothing compared to this.

This site works more than fine for me, but if it goes down again, that is a different matter. I just wish Hando would get on board again and grab the board and Chip by the balls and iron this out.

Really it is not about the small or minor issues with the forum. The biggest problem is the complete silence from the only person capable of managing it.
I have seen something similar on www.vpforum.com , first there was lack of interest and communication from the administrator and after a while the forum was completely dead. All old posts (I think more than 7 years of posts) were gone, all kind of tutorials etc, nobody had a back up of the site and the administrator couldn't be reached.
There was an initiative a couple of weeks after the forum died, www.vpforum.org
A great site, but lacks some great content and history of the old site. One of the major posters in the old site even died and now it is not possible to scan through the old posts again. He will not be able to recreate them..

It is clearly not possible to contact Hando (for months now), so someone needs to take action before all is lost forever. Hando clearly doesn't care or something might have happened to him. Whatever it is Chip is doing the right thing here. I hope everybody will join his effort even if you don't like how he said it or even if you don't like the guy. This decision is more important than one person. IMO especially devs could make this successful when they start posting in the new forum.

Copy the content of this site and start posting in the new forum. The sooner the better. I know people don't like to change, and a forum change could feel like leaving home.
Short term emotional thinking might win from common sense, but I hope not...

I really don't think chip meant to cause all this chaos when he posted, all I got from it was that it was a sensible move to Eds server, I'm pretty sure Ed would never allow any bias - he runs the archive for the GP2X and has done for years, he will be running the Wiz archive too, and will run the new forum in the same sensible way.

I think maybe if Ed had posted the initial post things might have been a little more calm, even if his post had said the same thing.

Think back for a second, it didn't used to be like this.

Can you paste the contents? I'm sure we're all interested in what Hando said. (Unless he wouldn't want us to know.)

translating all email to english will takes few hours , give me few minutes and i'll put only essential stuff...

EDIT:

1. Hando is not planning to dissappear from the gp32x/gp2x scene
2. Because of "delicate" situation with the server on which lays gp32x.de , all messages sent to Hando , are marked as "SPAM",
3. Also he gets mainly 300-350 spam mails daily on his email account , thats why sometimes he dont have enegry to dig up everything daily.
4. He dont wanna give back gp32x.de domain / server to someone [ even from forum ] because of nostalgic accent of gp32x.de
5. About Chip's information about Donations: Hando told clearly that there wasn't any donation fund created, and he only gets ONE paypal donation since starting gp32x.de
6. And for the end, he dont wanna promise anything but he have plans to support gp32x [ and change few things ] in near future, but everythings in his life need to clear, firstly.

I wish that something had been delegated, to someone. The state this board is in makes it nearly impossible to use.

I don't have any qualms about letting ED have the forums, as long as Craig isn't a moderator (either in person or through puppets). I don't mind craig being who he is, just he shouldn't get to censor any part of the community.

Edit: (atomicthumbs saved my bitch below anyway)

I got over my mood, I was pissed when I heard that.

Maybe he can't use SpamAssasin for some reason. You try sorting through hundreds of spam emails with no filter.

I don't have anything against the Pandora or it's creators. What I don't like is the systems that this board was created for in the first place be given a back seat to a system that doesn't even exist. To suggest archiving the pandora board and not the gamepark stuff just seems stupid. I hope the Pandora is wildly successful. I would love to see an open source game system do well. I really love my gp32 and my GP2x and I hope I will eventually have a pandora, but in the meanwhile, I think the gamepark devices have more in the archives than the pandora.

What really gets to me is that there are a lot of people on this board who don't own any of the systems that the site supports. There are many people who were attracted to the board for the Pandora and they couldn't care less about the gp32 or gp2x. Most of them have never even seen a gp32 or gp2x and they dis it and point out how much they don't like it. I am not saying everyone, but there are a large number of Pandora fanboys who don't have any gp system and to have them relegate the GP archives to the bit bin just gets under my skin.

I also don't want to see the knowledge base lost. Imagine if someone buys a gp32 or gp2x on ebay and all of the knowledge in the archive is lost? Who will help them? What if I have a problem with mine at some point in the future? I would hate to see that knowledge lost, especially to lose it to the pandora archives which contain NOTHING.
Sorry.

In a way, I sorta agree with you. I've been here quite long as well , back when this was all about the gp32. Honestly, its the momentum is shifting....and sometimes you gotta move with it. Yes we are talking about a console that doesn't phyisically exist in our hands yet, but you gotta face facts, this forum will crash again.....its a given, it can't handle the traffic. And to be fair, I would love for this place to get fixed. There is alot of history here, both with news and coding competitions and alot of other things that makes this place original.

I would love to keep things here, as this is where it started......but you have to be realistic. This is what happens on the internet. Websites die. Fanbases move, or die out as a result. I've seen it happen to maybe 3 or 4 other forum I used to be a part of.

Take for instance, www.virtual-hideout.com. or www.ve3d.com which used to be run by a great person until he died. Both of those used to be great places....virtual hideout still is...but there virtually is no people left in that forum. Like I said before, its sad, and I would hate to see this forum die out, I'm all for a change-over, but I want this place to be fixed as well.
