Should I Return My Gp2x Because Of Speaker

I have had my GP2X for 2 weeks and it was working ok.

Then suddenly the speaker and headphones work at the same time. This is like not
acceptable because it makes the unit quite loud when in bed or on a bus or wherever.

However I found that this is a hardware fault because of bad solder used in the production process, and it is basically waiting to happen to all gp2x units.

So should I send it back and ask for a replacement ? Because any unit that is given to me will have this problem until the manufacturing process increase their standards. Or should I wait ? The longer I wait the less likely is my legal position.

I dont mind the unit I have being fixed, I just dont want the unit to go off somewhere and come back 2 months later, this is not acceptable. I would hope to keep my unit until such time as the problem is fixed by GPH and I can have another unit, or it fixed immediately.

I dont think anybody should buy the GP2X if this problem is still unresolved in the production line.

DG.

Well, how handy are you with a soldering iron? I would fix it myself, but I don't mind tinkering with gadgets (I installed an AfterBurner in my old GBA), and from what I've seen first-hand (I opened up my '2X to get rind of some dust inside the screen cover) it's not that hard to re-solder.

This problem is simply inserting the headphone jack does not cut out the speakers of the gp2x and it is documented.

Sure I could solder, but I dont see it a solution because there is a chance I could fuck up and void my warrenty.

In fact I dont consider this soldering gossip that is going around as any good advice whatsoever.

GPH and their distributers should have some responsibility. I cannot imagine PSP or DS owners to be ok about soldering their units because of the fault of manufacturers.

Evildragon stated he would not ship any more GP2X until the GPL issue was resolved. Maybe he should also consider selling to customers and knowingly shipping units that could eventually screw up because of faulty a manufacturing process. That to me is a double standard of all the distributers involved with GPH.

i belive we have a right to send back, as i did, i mean, i dont expect to buy a unit for 130 odd pounds, then have to open it up and solder things!!

if you see what i mean

and yes it was a factory prob lol!!

gbax quite happily sent us another WORKING unit, and refund for postage of us having to send back dodgy unit!

so i would mate ;)

yeah but I just want a working unit that is not going to fail :(

If I understand it right, still all units can do this until we get a response otherwise.

Then send it back ... if you're nervous about stock, ask the distributer you got yours from.

slightly off topic but i wonder how much a gp2x costs if you bought direct from GPH?

you can get £7 if you refer someone on GBAX and they buy a unit, £7 is a lot of money for a distributer to give away for a referall..and the unit only costs £125, and they also want to make a decent profit...they must buy them for like, £80-90 a pop?

is gph even a retailer? granted it's cheaper to get your ford right from the assembly line and your gameboy right from nintendo but manufacturers aren't generally retailers. When factory direct sales are an option, retailers tend not to want to carry your product.

as for the gp2x in question, return that trash before gph gets the idea that we don't care what kind of trash they sell us. Don't count on it being a quick process, though.

Best anwser? Just ask the distrubutor that you got it from for an answer. They will be in the best position to answer all your questions.

Also, are you pushing the headphones all the way in?

You can buy a new Corvette right from Chevy and pick it up at the Bowling Green, Kentucky manufacturing plant. They even give you a tour of the place, IIRC. That's the exception, though.

If your console failed in some way then send it back to where you bought it. Maybe not relevent in your case but eg in the UK if the unit fails within 30 days you may just get a replacement unit from the distributor rather than waiting for a return to the manufacturer.

If you're really THAT concerned about getting a fixed unit that will never ever fail then your main problem isn't with the GP2X. Gotta wonder why you bought a pre-launch item in the first place if you're so filled with trepidation.

I dont understand this "pre launch" gossip going about either, with 8000 units shipped its hardly prelaunch.

And neither on distributer sites do they say "prelaunch - potential to fuck up". There is no mention of prelaunch.

Nor is there any mention of prelaunch in the 1 page advertisements in Linux Format or Retrogamer magazines.

This unit is official, its no prelaunch.

some people refer to the current units as pre-launch units, but as far as I know this has no base. I think that it started with lik-sang who claim they are waiting for the second gp2x, also referred to as the "official" launch. I think that they already had the "official" launch as most people are already getting theirs and the major retailers all have them.

Return your gp2x and make sure you make it clear that you want one without any problems. The only problems I have had with my gp2x (which is a first edition!) is that occassionally when I moved the joystick the middle of the screen would blur a little. This had to do with internal pressure on the screen and was solved by loosening the screws in the gp2x a little bit.

They should have tighten that screw using a torque screw driver solves all problems upfront but is a bit of a pain. My one hasn't arrived yet, its good to know that I may need a soldering iron handy if only I could find it.

Ship the thing to me and Ill do it (sodder the correct wire) for you, you just gotta pay the shipping both ways.

Note: Ive done it to mine, and now it works flawlessly.

Would there be anyway to insert this program or process into the boot procedure, so the
unit would boot always with the speakers off, since most of the time I use headphones
on the bus or when sitting in bed. This would be acceptable for most users instead of always going to this program everytime you switch on the gp2x.
