Anyone one in the UK should be safe. i'd be very suprised if a currier managed to actually bend such a small box..

If it's going over sea's thats a different story

Yeah... I live in Perú, South America... so it's a bit of a long trip  . I wouldn't ask for a fancy package that would just make OpenPandora's costs higher, but maybe just a sturdy package... so it can land safely on my hands ;) .

I do plan to get another Pandora from the second or third batch, so then maybe a nice and sturdy package would be cool, safe and would not harm financially Craig and the rest of the guys.

Yeah i understand.. i dont like reciving over seas something so expensive and delecate. im sure Craigix and the team will not be shipping over seas in crap packaging. i dont think you need to worry to much

I like the no-nonsense approach with the bubble wrap in a box.

The only problem I see with this is that it will get a negative mark from reviewers.
IMHO, packaging is like the clothing on a person, they get judged by it, rather it's fair or not.
If Pandora is to attrack these non-techie potential buyers, they need to spend that extra $3-$5.
First impresssion is everything, OP can not say it will get a nicer box with the 2nd patch of Pandies, buyers won't register that. Potential buyers will see these reviews and say "WTF, even cheap pmp from China have better packaging".

BTW, is bubble wrap better or foam better for packaging? I'm sure foam would cost more, just wondering.

from what im aware of some conutry doesnt allow styrofoam anymore. and the second thing is that this is going to be the first batch so most of the public is either a Techie entusiast or a programer/IT Specialist.

the nice and shiny box should be used for the next waves, but right now i prefer to make it keep a low profile.

The thing is, Craig had mentioned that several Pandoras will be shipped to "respected" reviewers from the 1st batch. Sorry, this is from memory, no link.
The purpose of getting them reviewed is so that it will no longer be "low profile".
Casual buyers will look at these reviews and think to themselves "if they can't spend time to create a nice package, what does it say about the quality of the unit."
I think many name brand buying customers do think in this manner.
I know OP wasn't intended for the name brand customers, but I think if we can attract a small portion of those buyers, it will make the project even more successful.

i like the option Think Geek uses, simple plain polyethylene bags full of air and sealed (yes just the kind of transparent bags you find on a fruit/veggie shop).

This is exactly the stuff that my seemingly-unbreakable item was shipped in... and broke. I really don't trust those. Nor shipping popcorn (or packing peanuts, whatever you prefer to call them) for that matter. I'd prefer Pandora to be packed in a very secure box of its own, the packing inside said box not allowing any room for movement. Then that box packed in another box with some bubble wrap, or popcorn, just for a little extra padding, but still offering a tight fit. Best would be to suspend the box in a kind of cardboard and foam scaffolding like some laptops are shipped, but I think that would be a little much for probably a relatively small box.

A nice inner box would be cool, but I know what I'm getting into so I don't mind a plain box, and the added cost of something like that would be nice to avoid.

Yo dawg... ok, no stupid memes :)

In my opinion function always comes before form, so I think the best way would be to concentrate on getting the pandora safely to our grubby hands rather than arguing over pretty boxes which we can look at for the few seconds it takes to rip them apart. Just get it to me fast and intact, and I'll be one happy camper.

Ill be ok as long as the box doesn't look like this.

Considering the size of the Pandora, and assuming there's plenty of bubble wrap inside, I would think a box like that should be ok :p

I really don't care how it's packaged. If it's packaged in just a brown box then they can produce a sleeve for it later.

There are more important things than cover art.

A box came to my house and looked just like that, and nothing was damaged. It even had something spilled on it.
