So will there be SDXC support? 2 terabytes sounds like a storage dream come true! though i have no idea what this exfat is.
I don't know about the store being usable in the slots, but alternative filesystems like UFS or ext2/3 are going to be available. UFS should work on most desktop/laptop computer OSes and should be available on the Pandora as an option. exFAT's not going to be likely unless it's a rational and logical expansion of FAT32 such that there's no potential patent infringement issues with it.invinciblegod said:So will there be SDXC support? 2 terabytes sounds like a storage dream come true! though i have no idea what this exfat is.
assuming that SDXC is nothing else than unlocking the 6 bits unused in SDHC, yes, that's it. but do you know that this is the case? or did they revamp the specs completely? is it electrically compatible?Kimundi said:I dont know how often it was mentioned before, but the Linux SDHC Driver already has support for the theoretical maximum Size of 2 TB build-in
I'm pretty sure 2TB is the limit for FAT partitions, but I'd never actually use it for a partition that size. The 4GB file size limit is a more pressing concern at that point, since I'd presumably be putting some pretty big files on a 2TB SD*C card.Squidge said:I would have thought it would just be a software upgrade, theres no reason to change the hardware. The changes made to support SDHC already increased storage capacity by 512 times, and 512 times the old non-SDHC maximum size (4GB) = 2TB.
Of course, SDCard.org has always said you should use FAT for file system, so that will have to change, as I don't think it supports 2TB partitions.
Exarus said:What I wonder about is how long will the cards last? will they be "Better" than SDHC cards? I Mean how many read and writes can we expect form these new cards?
I doubt that will change, as it still depends on the nand memory the data storage will depend on.
hch said:this reads like there will be major revisions to the standard. note that they say the slots will be backward compatible. or is this just blah-blah and only software needs to be updated?
Sounds like "Software needs to be updated, Hardware needs to be updated if you require the higher 104MB/sec speed".
I'll be very suprised if you can't run a SDXC card at SDHC speeds.
Heh... I can envision many people getting some pretty hi-definition pr0n at that point...Ravnos said:I'm pretty sure 2TB is the limit for FAT partitions, but I'd never actually use it for a partition that size.
