I came up with a workaround for the 8 bit SDL problem. Basically I use SDL to convert from 8 bit to 16 bit.
Well the wiz is the little beast that could. It still runs quake2 at a very playable level. I dont have actual fps numbers yet, but they are good.

Get it here

I made a mistake in the startup script add: +set k_khz 44

This is an entirely unoptimised port with a hack to get it working in 16bpp right? If so this is very promising :), seeing as the Wiz does actually have 3D hardware that could potentially be put into use for games like this (don't quote me on that though being true though as I know nothing of 3D :p )

Excuse my ignorance, but how are you playing quake when there are no fingers on the Wiz buttons? Do you have a keyboard or gamepad plugged in?

Because that is the intro demo, no one is actually playing.

Being on a mac today means I can't watch this, can you get the fps numbers?
you cant play mpeg2 on a mac?
If someone knows the command line or something to spit out the Fps let me know.

And yes its the intro demo at the beginning, as i cant play the game and hold the camera at the same time  .

Edit: and yeah this as unoptimized as can be. And it does have a hack to convert from 8 bpp to 16 bpp, so theres some wasted cycles there.

'This is not a video file'

I hate macs.

You could upload it to youtube, actually I wonder if I could upload it from the mac and have youtube convert it for me then watch it!

Good idea

The command is +set cl_showfps 1 if anyone with a wiz can try it, i wont for a while.

I've got to a PC to watch it.

I'd be interested to know the frame rates for a Pandora/Wiz CPU comparison since they are both running in pure software and both unoptimised - and everyone loves the Quake benchmarkings.

Might also give a decent report on the FP performance of the Wiz.

sory for stupid questin becous if it doesn't exist there must be some reason but why won't on of the new first-person shooters be ported : Quake 3 ,, CS ,, Wolfenstein enemy terretory .. I know they need more powerfull CPU and a GPU but IF even one of them has a "open sourcous" ( don't know about the detalis ) code like Doom it would be possible to change the ressolution and in a "ordinary" PC ( I'm taking example from mine ) there is 1024x1280 and the Wiz 320x240 so PC - 1310720 pixels Wiz - 76800 so it is about 17 time less and the hard-ware isn't 17 times worse than the CS minimu ( it really has bad graphics ,, from my friends opinion I play ET )

Edit: Of course some interface change would be nice
