so would this be exactly like the case where there are 4gb sd cards available now, even though the myth states that sd standard only goes to 2gb, once it surpasses that, it becomes sdhc format?
No, the old SD standard really did only go up to 2GB, physically. The 4GB ones use hacks that probably shouldn't have worked and frequently don't. The SDHC standard had enough address space for 2TB, they simply said "no card shall be larger than 32GB" and expected everyone to follow that standard. Readers that adhere strictly to the standard, that just assume the extra address lines will be unused, will not be able to read the larger SDXC cards, even though it's the exact same format except using the extra address lines. I'm not actually aware of any readers that followed the spec that closely, but you never know.
