Since this topic is still relevant, there's no reason not to dig it up...
I suggest the following:
<mainboard version> / <SOCboard version> <variant identifier>
Using two integers and a character.
I suggest:
A = no 3G or GPS
B = 3G
C = 4G
X = weird, prototype, modified, partially broken or otherwise non-standard boards
So currently, ED has Pyra 1/1 X hardware lying around
In Two Months' TM time, the Pyra 1/1 A and 1/1 B will be released
Then, sometime afterwards, the Pyra 1/1 C
A bug or two is spotted in the mainboard. New revision: the Pyra 2/ series
The 4G module becomes very cheap, so no more Pyra B models
Maybe an upgrade to a fancy big.little SOC or something, creating the /2 family ( Pyra 2/2 A and Pyra 2/2 C)
Some people may, through upgrades, end up with Pyra 1/2 B units, although, in this hypothetical chain of events, would never be sold officially
Maybe a bunch of unrepairable units are sent in under warranty, or GC mess up. Dragonbox would then sell a bunch of Pyra X units. The X would indicate that you should read the full description to find out exactly what the unit does or does not do.
