The September issue of the Retrogamingradio show has a 9 minute segment in their news section (Bits & Bytes) about the GP2X. The show is donwloadable from http://www.retrogamingradio.com (Time 161:38 - 170:58)

Apparently the host of the show, Shane R. Monroe is completely taken by the GPX2 concept.

"Chances are likely that this product will become a regular part of Retrogaming radio...and in fact I may even try to forge an offical alliance with this particular product...because frankly, in todays day and age this is the product that will set us all free."

He goes on to say that this is basically the product that the Retrogamingradio.com community has been talking about and begging for. He continues by saying that it has "everything you want in a portable and nothing you don't want".

He also goes into the specifications and uses of the GP2X. He mentions that he's talked to Craig over email and promises that there will be more inside information in next month's show (October).

Once he gets the unit he will also do a full review :)

This may not be the best news at this time.
Better to hold of such mass marketing till the system ships.
If Nintendo and Sony get wind of this the system could possibly ship without the sdk, or worse.
I think we can all benefit from the system shipping before the legal wranglings commence.

I can't take Monroe seriously, he has a retro-perversion which prevents him enjoying modern-era games.

I mean, he called Mario 64 "Just a tech demo" and said that Mario Vs. Donkey Kong was "too repetitive". This comes from the guy whose favorite game is Robotron, I mean come on.

I gave up after around 6 months of listening to RGR, mainly because he comes across as a very egotistical bloke. I'm sure I have the wrong impression of him, but alot of the things he say make no sense.

Mass marketing? I'm not sure I get what you're meaning. If Sony and Nintendo don't already know about GP2X I seriously doubt they'll find out from an Internet radiostation for retrogamers.

Also I think that at this time GP2X needs all the attention it can get. All products need attention to sell. If you try to hide from Sony and Nintendo you will also hide from potential buyers.

Also I seriously doubt Craig would endorse this if wasn't good.

so what the hell is he talking about? I can't concentrate on anything he says, and he keeps stuttering.

Well he has a lot of strong opinions on things. Loves to rant. Not always completely logical, I agree. A lot of stuff he says makes sense though. Especially if you're were there yourself back in the "good old days" :)

It's generally pretty clear what he's saying. He's basiclly singing it's praises, stuff we already know about upcomming emulators and stuff.

Well, i gues you all know that my english is not the best, but i just listent to the complete show and did understand evry single word, so it cant be that bad...

Also, that guy haves a pretty good opinion if you ask me, the stuff he says makes sense, mostly.

LOL what a nice radio show. I've added it to my links. These things are lovely to listen to in the background. I do hope more of this sort of thing happens.

He's rather good and informed. Remembering that most people here are relatively experts on the GP32 :). If I had to summerise the GP2X for this length of time I would stuggle.

BTW check out the tech show archives http://www.tllts.info/archives/ for a comparison of a similar radio show. Check out the first episode. They get more proffectional later but the first esisode is the funniest thing you will ever hear.

Hmm... sounds fairly well informed and *extremely* enthusiastic, but something about the article struck me as not quite on the dot... 2 things especially so: the phrase "runs amiga easily" - we know Squidge has gotten Amiga running, but it does remain to be seen quite how well (although I must say I'm confident, I'm not necessarily confident for a perfect 0FS emu or what have you - although we don't, in all honesty, need one - FS1 looks hella smooth imo, and FS2 is adequate for almost anything), and futher the mentioning of not needing to fiddle about re-encoding videos *to* MP4s. This isn't exactly right - you'll still need vids to be in DivX or XviD or some MP4 generic codec, its just you won't need to re-encode for the resolution to be correct.

I doubt very much whether we'll ever be able to dump a DVD disk into a machine and hit a "to GP2x" button, and get the DVD simply decrypted and dumped onto the SD card (let alone the fact that doing so would require a 4Gb card lol).

Could be wrong though... lets wait and see. Sounds like a fun radio show though :)

Yeah but it isn't too bright to be advertizing that it emulates Nintendo systems like SNES and GBA, and a Sony system like PSX right on their website. *bad idea* That should be removed before Nintendo removes them from business with legal fees. Remember Nintendo would not even have to win, GPH would crumble under legal fees even if Nintendo lost.

It would really suck if the GP2x was never released just because of a few stupid lines of text on GPH's website ;)

Actually I suspect Gamepark would just ignore nintendo ;)

I don't think that would work. You can't hide from the "big N". They would be issued a C&D and their assets frozen and it would be all over.

Why take a chance and flirt with disaster? For what? Better to play it safe.

It would be like me telling you to just ignore Sony and sell imported PSPs anyway. How far would you get?

I'm don't know that much about international copyright laws but will a C&D work on a company located in South Korea? I don't think US law could be applied unless the company had an office in the US. I think Nintendo/Sony would have to go to a South Korean court and file a claim. Not sure how that would work out. Do they consider emulation illegal there? Also South Korea isn't exactly in love with Japan either.
