Well, everyone has probably seen ED's tweet but I thought I'd start a thread on here. Tons of enhancements to the Retrode. There is no way that I'm going to miss it this time!

I like the game ports directly on the unit itself, makes playing multi-player on the Pandora simple, well, any device really.

Yep, and due to mass production, it will also be cheaper :)

I'll offer it for sure in my shop :)

oooooo, I had not heard. I was waiting for another run, but this is even better!

My sentiments exactly.

I didn't buy the old one because after paying out for it I would have still needed to buy either USB adaptors for the controllers or special USB versions of the controllers. After adding 2 for Snes and another two for Megadrive, this upped the price by quite a bit. Glad that's been taken care of :)

I wasn't sure about the metal case either, so it's good to see that's been taken care of too :D

The cover / hat looks gay, should design some internal cover similar to Super Nintendo or Sega Genesis consoles

Also did they mention mass production of different adapters for different consoles?

I'm glad you're going to sell the great product of Matthias, ED.

I was already informed that you were going to be an "official reseller" for the Retrode 2, since I'm de one that asked on his website

About the "door" I think the clamshell is better because the SNES-like internal cover can only protect against dust.

And since I'll take my future retrode along my pandora most of the time, it have to be "bag proof".

Well, I've always been pushing legal emulation, and for me, this is a VERY important step towards it in my opinion!

Why pay 5 EUR per game in a virtual store if you already own it?

I've got over 100 SNES and MegaDrive games lying around, rebuying them for 5 EUR would cost me 500 EUR and I could only play them on one console... here's a perfectly legal way for me to play them whereever I want :)

I want one, I want one, I want one. (I missed the first batch.)

When can I pre-order?! :D

Nice, I don't own that many SNES/MD games.

But with the plugins I could plug my GB(A) and N64 cartridges.

I still hope they'll make a NES adapter.

And yeah, buying the right to download a game for 5€ is a bit overpriced, even more when you already own them.

Right now second hand SNES/MD games can be found at cheap prices. Some games are clearly overpriced on eBay, but on garage sales and with a bit a luck, there are great bargain to do.

And I love owning a real piece of hardware

Prometheus, I also missed the first batch, but seeing the new case, I think it was for the better.

I hope I'll have enough money when ED will start selling them

Well I'm excited by the retrode 2, as a proud owner of the first one to which i added the snes gamepad port, I can't tell you how brilliant it is, the possibilities with this version are even better, I'm off to find some six button mega drive pads, still waiting for my pandora though, still only two more months

I don't need one, but I'm almost certainly going to buy one to support this endeavour. Unless I can magically wrangle one for review... But I doubt this sort of thing needs reviews to sell like hotcakes.

I still prefer the metal case of the original, though, it's like a gold brick! Lovely!

How does it look "gay" if I may ask? Though gaiety is pretty much what I feel when I look at the design :)

Internal dust flaps would have required the case to be at least 20mm higher, otherwise they would collide with the connectors while pivoting down.

gay was a poor choice of words, especially for those outside of america, I don't think it translates well.... displeasing to the eyes would be more accurate

whatever that would need to be done, be it swing down doors/flaps, some sort of false cartridge, the current design I feel looks horrible. Please see my crude drawing below I feel would be superior designs. Note the hinge could be moved in or out to allow for clearance, the flaps don't necessarily need to be stay within the confines of the device when cartridge is inserted.

and given the fact I took my time to visualize what I'm talking about, care to answer my question?

I'm going to give my opinion about your options.

The option A, "flap doors" are great for a device that stay under your TV.

But for a device that's going to travel in a backpack, I think it's not enough to protect the connectors from other objects.

The option B, dummy cartridge seems better, but there is a small problem (maybe only for me).

I'm pretty air-headed and if it's not connected to the main body, I'm going to loose it.

I think "gay" is as poor a choice of words inside of America as it is anywhere else in the world. I am sorry the design does not please your eyes, but since you appear to be the only one, you may just have to live with it.

Loose parts? Better not, see previous post. And if the hinge axes lie within the space needed for the cart, where are the doors supposed to swing to? Or am I missing your point? By the way, the guy who made the design has 25 years of experience in CAD/CAM programming and tool design, so he's aware of many practical issues and cost factors that we just cannot know about. Double internal flaps were my initial suggestion to him; he estimated that they would increase the tooling cost by at least EUR 5000 (USD 7000). Which anyone will agree is better spent on other things.

While I certainly appreciate this effort, considering the residual dickishness of your post - no.
