Anyone know of any freeware MP4 converters? :D It certainly gives me a better sense of how open the system is... I still dont think you;ll be able to use emmulators on it unless you open the system itself but atleast they dosent seem to be as fascist about the use as I innitially suspected. (the need to convert files is a bit annoying but it cant be worse than doing it for the gp32_console )

I have to admit that I am tempted to get a PSP.. might see what the prices are like on GBAX first though...

currently the yen to dollar/pound conversions are bringing it in at just over £100.

man, i really want one of these things now, suddenly the job packing eggs in a factory over xmas seems that much more attractive than temping for someone! the pay would mean i would have enough for uni and could get the psp.

it would be brilliant if someone could put together some sort of browser for use on wifi networks.

it would be great if you could have your favourties and passwords say saved to a memory stick and then do simple browsing with the psp, obviously typing would be an issue but to check emails, read gp32x, check various blogs and such it would superb.

So, who has actually pre-ordered a PSP here?

I have, from Play Asia.

Can I ask how much you paid? They've stopped taking preorders but I'm thinking about getting one after Xmas.

i find it a bit sussed that liksang is still yet to publish a price, or am i missing something fundemental

good news in the update on liksang today though, looks like the 802.11b feature will be available for straight up net access, or possibly i'm miss reading something.

Something just occured to me.

Assuming you ripped a dvd and then converted it to MP4 to play on the PSP you'd likely have a longer playback time than the originally estimated 2 hours because that was stated as being from UMD. Spinning the UMD is going to use up more power than reading off a non moving memory stick.

does the UMD spin?
I didn't realise that (the shape) or does the disk spin on the plate?
EDIT Ahh so it does:

By the way check out the PSP section of Gamespot loads new news on the PSP. A three page article about it (they've seen it). It's truly orgasmic!

Both of them got their PSPs through the sony auction so there's not much new in the Gamespot article but it's a decent read since they're alittle more discriptive.

so do you think you're going to get a PSP then?
Btw some retro fighting game (vampire chronicles I think, I forget now since it looked crap) which has been enhanced with loads of special effects for the PSP has got your avatar as one of the characters.

No. Oh...ok.

I paid £190 for the super duper value pack and Ridge Racers and UPS shipping. Not including VAT or tax.

I do want one, I dont thin it was ever a question of "if" more like "When" especially if I get to view movies on that huge ass screen (this was one of the selling points for me on the gp32_console ) As I've said before my only fear on the PSP is that battery buisness.

Yeah I've seen some video of that Vampire chronicles/darkstalkers game, with capcom's horrible track record on their fighting games I did't expect it to be earth shattering, but atleast it's a fighting game. It's good to know Huitzel is in it even if I dont use him.

That's damn good for the cash considering the UK price is rumoured to be as much as £175 for the regular pack. Although I'm gonna wait until the reviews come in before I make my mind up...still torn between a DS and a PSP.

I'm going to say what Mattmagoo has already said a few pages back, and that's that at the moment i'm currently in favour of the DS, as i've had it since 2pm yesterday, and within 24 hours i've clocked up almost 50 stars in Mario DS. I've been hammering it to death, it feels sturdy, and I KNOW that it's brilliant.

However, I do have the intention of buying a PSP aswell and comparing the two. My prediction though is that it won't make me smile as much. As odd a thing that is to say... Playing on the DS, I couldn't help but just grin as I was playing it. Using the touch screen as an analog pad with the thumb strap felt completely natural to me after a few minutes of experimenting with it, and there's just some charm that the DS has that makes me grin, whether it's being able to use the stylus in those Rec Room minigames or playing with something new.

The PSP will probably be great as far as gameplay goes, but the loading times would scare me a little and to be perfectly honest... I'd miss the second screen.

To get back on topic though, I'll be buying my PSP for Ridge Racers and Lumines. Not being a huge Final Fantasy fan, i'm not having multiple orgasms at the thought of FF7 on PSP. However... If Konami bought Zone of the Enders over to it, well... :)
