Psp

OK, so wow they are catering for 16-20 year olds but how many 20 year olds would be caught dead carrying around something that could easily be mistaken as a gameboy

Caught dead? No, Playstation as a brand is in fact quite an acceptable symbol these days.

True, not a lot of these people have gameboys, but they all have Playstations, ipods, mobile phones etc. Look at the PSP, it has the PS brand and it looks and fits into this type of category.

If they drive MS and Nitny out of the console market as they did SEGA then the gaming world will become a very crap one (not saying PS Is crap, saying that games are good because they have competition)

I dont think this is true either.

Look at it this way, it's not like when BT was the only phone company and everyone had to use them. If Sony somehow ran all other companies out of the market, it's not like people would continue to buy games because they need to. The games still need to be of a certain standard so people will buy them, or they simply would not buy them.

Perhaps the most important point is that there would still be competition between games companies (ie, the makers of the game) even if Playstation or whatever is the only console.

YES, but YOU are a gamer

thats why you are on gaming forums

most people think its not cool to be seen playing a game thats not GTA, let alone be playing on something handheld

If I could direct your attention here.

u will not get a good idea of the general population from this board because we are all gamers that read internet stuff and magazines and go on forums

IM TALKING ABOUT JOE PUBLIC, all those people that made PS2 sell so much, the chavs the townies etc.

well, for shortages, sony is making only .5 million for this year, but thats only the Japan release so its not that bad, .5 million units rom Dec 12th to Dec 30 ( or 31 i cant remember how many days lol )
but, Sony has ordered 10 million WLAN units for the PSP, and they lose a lot per unit so I think they know to get them out fast to make some money

oh god don't bring that back up
i want ps2 so bad and i couldn't have it
now for some reason i hate playstion 2
i guess i just hate any console that dominates the market unless it's a nintendo product

how 20 games need to go even
i've never bought me more maybe 15 games per console

and i doubt i'll buy any if I buy a psp
by the time i buy it there will probably warez available that i can play on it
and i will have no moral issue doing it
fuck sony

i agree with magoo , the ammount of chavs at college and when i was at highschool pointing an laughing at me an my friends playing GBA Sp's and such , and they still do it at college, they all say how cool GTA is an stuff , they dont care whats on a hand held just the fact it is a handheld , and they are not what chavs consider cool.

also on the topic of the PSP's graphics...
Handheld games do not require good graphics , they require good, fun playability, so swamping the PSP with hundreds of CRAP GAMES -(see the ps1 and ps2 releases , they have release so much shit , and only a few good games , where as the cube has only a few games but most of them are fucking excelent)- will not work. sony should stick to the home entertainment where they can cheer up the chavs and keep them off the street. leave the handhelds to us gaming geeks XD

Playstation has got that kind of name. But by the looks of the PSP I think they're trying to make the market they sell to more wide. I mean look at the PSP it just looks like it's been made for nerds imo. Especially with USB link. I think that hopefully the same style games will follow.
I mean does this really look like something a chav would play to you?

Coded Arms- click on official trailer

To conclude I think we all chose are path for these two. I'm a PSP fanboy and proud. Each to his own but still I think it's great to voice our opinions about each system, let the battle commense ;)

Has anyone thought of GTA on the PSP. It will cause the Scum's (We dont call them Chavs here) heads to explode.

tbh it would cause my head to explode, sounds like a great idea.
EDIT: I've known about this for a while but I think you guys may like it:
axel impact international-good example of a racing game. (basically the video is an amazing example of the PSP's ability to create amazing graphics at speed and the collision is amazing along with damage etc... :D)

Also there's a very interesting looking game called Death, Jr. Check out both of the gameplay footage videos on gamespot and also look at this gameplay video on gametrailers.com

woah read this:
TOKYO--According to a recent update on the official PSP Web site, the new handheld will be able to both download movie files and play them back on the fly. The site further reveals that the PSP will have the ability to play back MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) files, which the site abbreviates as MP4.

Users will be able to download MP4 files to the Memory Stick Duo, similarly to how MP3 audio files can be downloaded to the same piece of hardware. Of course, one issue to contend with is that the MP4 format, as much as it is a standard ISO format, isn't widely supported yet. Users will need to find a converter if they want to view their already existing movie files on the PSP.

For its part, Sony will be supplying Windows-based software, called Image Converter 2, that will facilitate the conversion, although a separate purchase of the program will be required. A trial version of the converter will be released the day after the PSP's Japanese launch on December 13. (Consumers only interested in viewing their home videos, take note: Sony's DSC-M1 Cybershot digital camera records files in MP4 format.)

The exact details on how to download music or movie data onto the PSP and its memory stick will be disclosed in the near future on a dedicated Web page.

As for the availability of commercial movies in UMD format, Sony has yet to announce a lineup, and it is currently unknown if any titles will be released at the PSP's launch.
That's from Gamespot btw, I think that's the best news there could ever have been :D

So, who has actually pre-ordered a PSP here?

I have, from Play Asia.

i must say i'm being drawn more and more to the psp.

i originally planned on taking my GC to uni but left it at home due to a combination of having to pay for a tv license despite the fact it would just be used for gaming and crucially due to the worries i had about the effects on my social life.

we all know that gaming can be an isolated activity, yes there is nothing better than a big group of mates and a night of multi-player/drinking, but at the same time its very easy to just sit down and play for hours when you could be out in the wider world.

i think a handheld would be perfect for someone at uni, you can whip it out during any frees you have when you can't be assed to read, it less obvious to thieves, you can wander into the common room and play until someone else wanders in and you go do something.

also, i've had a long experience of ninty products and feel ready for a change, the psp looks like it will be great for a wide range of different games and from recent news looks like it will be easily utilised for things like portable video.

lastly the general look of the console is far more appealing to me, it does look damn sexy!

With every passing day the PSP just keeps getting better and better.

Support for your own videos has now been announced.

As has the fact you can change it to English if you are importing.

Full report when I get it (probably sometime next february...whaaa whaaa  )

thats neat that the PSP will play MP4 video
now I can use my PSP when I get it for movies and use my GP32 solely for games
cant wait for it to come out
