Ps2 - Ultimate Accessory

ps2ownz.com has been reporting on a USBloader that will work with the PSTwo allowing it to use a standard external HDD but it'll only be usefull if the ports on it ar USB 2.0 like they claim. I'm still waiting to see what the reviews for it say.

Yeah, for the price stevo, but it does come with a memory card and 20 games.
I dont give two shits if its illegal is the fuckin nuts.

Nico

P.S. Type in PS2 HDD in ebay to bring up the auction. He sells loads email him and he will do one for £110.

No the ports are 100% 1.1, sony confirmed it a month or so back, but apparently USBLoader found a way around speed issues.

If that's true then all the USB loader is good for is storing memory card saves. I dont see how a USB1.1 connection can be useful for anything else.

In either case we'll know soon as the new was that it'd be ready to sell soon.

I think it bares mentioning that Sony has never refered to it as the PSTwo, I think it's just that so many people expected them to do the same things they did with the small PSOne that when it happened the name was instantly adopted. The official name is the Slimline PS2 but it's just quicker to type PSTwo.

Nope, its entirely illegal. Theres nothing wrong with the HD itself but HDLoader has been banned by Sony.

Banned by Sony? In which country do Sony decide legislation?

So...uhh...where is it NOT banned? Sony issued a cease & desist order. They banned it.

And anyone who thinks making backups of games is perfectly legal is kidding themselves - http://www.elspa.com/consumer/faqs.asp

It's a semantics issue. "Banned" suggests Sony has some say as to whether people can do it or not, when it's obvious people continue to do it today and likely will untill they die. Sony can "Forbid" or "Not Condone" the practice in the same way Gamepark is in regards to Emmulation but they have no power to "ban" the activity outside of redesigning the system which they've done on occasion to no avail.

So how is a cease & desist order not banning exactly? They more than 'not condoned' it, they banned it. Copying games, even for 'backup' usage is clearly an illegal practice and the HDloader is clearly and illegal piece of software. Sony don't have the right to ban software but they do have the right to use whatever powers the legal system grants them in a case like this.

Like I said, Semantics. Banned is just not the best word for it.

No, Sony certainly dosent want you to do it, but they can't stop you. If you were banned from a sporting event or a store it would mean you could never go back in unless they let you, You'd get caught at the door by the guards and shown back to the street.

i just ordered hd advance 2.0
i hope it's as good as everyone says it is
hopefully it is compatable with san andreas
i have a question though
can i send a an iso file of the my network to my ps2 or do i have to unpack it?
are there a lot of patches i have to apply to games?

From what I hear from most people GTA:SA works fine. For some ISOs if you have trouble installing with the PS2, you can put the drive either into your computer's tower or into an external enclosure to instal the ISO there and then put the drive back into the PS2.

I dont know anything about patches though.

But neither is 'forbidden' or 'not condoned' because that suggests Sony simply disaprove. They went further than that - they took legal action. Of course they can't stop you from using your copy if you already own it but they CAN stop you from buying a new copy, which is pretty damn similar to your sporting event analogy there. They banned it much in the same way you'd say that the BBFC banned the Evil Dead for many years.

EDIT: Yes, San Andreas works fine. Not sure about writing the ISO to a PC harddrive though - I think you might need a chipped PS2 for that to work.
