I used to play this arcade machine at Aladdin's Castle. It quickly became one of my favorites, but I forgot the title, and it's been years now.
Basically, a 2D asteroid shooter with a few twists. First, your ship could morph into one of three states:
- Small, quick, high rate of fire, weak shots
- Typical balanced fighter, decent rate of fire
- Large, slow, heavy armored, slow rate of fire, powerful shots
After clearing so many levels, you fought a boss monster - a green, wrinkly, evil blob creature with eight tubes sticking out its circular form. You shoot off the eight tubes then shoot directly at the beast to kill it.
Your ship is red with Galaga-style fins and a hit point bar. It had a thumping sci-fi soundtrack, especially during combat with the boss. The console had a dial control with thrust and fire buttons rather than a stick.
This game was probably released into arcades around 1990-1992.
Can anyone remember this? It's becoming an obsession...
