Ok so I have an unhealthy addiction to this game!

It is amazing to be fair.

I would love a port but don't have the ability myself, so could it be played on a pandora using one of the existing Linux friendly versions?

Info here http://xmoto.tuxfamily.org/

Geez, does somes read the wiki (entry 135) ?

XMoto is now rendered using GL.

It still does have a basic SDL renderer I tried to revive, but I ended without text on screen (which mean useless start menu). I gave up there.

If someone with GL -> GLES porting skill like this game it may be ported

Yes its on the wiki I believe it's on their because I asked for a port 2 years ago... But the fact it's on their doesn't really have anything to do with my question.

can it be played without porting on a pandora running say ubuntu.

No. Pandora cannot run x86 applications without at least a recompile, and often some partial rewrites.

Exceptions include interpreted languages like perl and python, and VM languages like Java and .NET, and even those are case by case.

Ah ok so the fact that a program or game would run on say ubuntu or angstrom does not meant would work on a pandora running ubuntu or angstrom?

99,9% of what is in angstrom will run on pandora (angstrom focus on the ARM plateform).

but say 50% of the x86 ubuntu is also in the ARM ubuntu repository.

As long as it don't depend on 3D, bringing something opensource to life on pandora is easy

Thats correct, the difference is processor architecture. It'd be like putting diesel in a petrol engine.

Ok that makes sense, and it's GLES that pandora has not GL. And there is no simple way to convert GL to GLES..

Sorry to add fuel to the fire here, but..

It seems Xmoto has been ported to GLES since I actually have it sat playable(well to the extent playing with the phones keyboard...) on my N900.

It's in one of the meamo repos...

So if anyone knows enough about porting meamo stuff to Pandora...

Ohh nice. Why didn't I though about this : instead of trying to revive the old renderer in the recent release (0.5.3 in my case) it use an old version (0.2.6 ; where the GL rendering wasn't yet done)...

This should be piece of cake ;)

So no, it havent been ported to GLES. But the game will be playable ;)

EDIT: just read the change log this games has always used GL rendering. though it seams that the " optimize string printing in opengl" introduced in 0.5.0 dont work well... at least for me)

So how would one go about getting it to actually work on pandora?

Sorry if that's a dum question.

N900 is very similar to the Pandora, even has the same resolution screen.

It runs Meamo as it's OS which is some form of linux based OS.

These similarities help someone that knows what they are doing port a game more easily... so hopefully Xmoto will be playable on Pandora at some point.

Ah nice, so we just need a maemo emulator building now right.

Yes that was a joke

arg, I'm getting the same font issue with the meamo version and with the 0.4.2 (have been ported to psp with a small patch).

So my problem is somewhere else...

Have you posted on the xmoto forums? They seem fairly active and a couple of the developers are on their regularly.

Sebt3 have you considered posting it in the beta playtesting thread? Maybe someone will have seen the issue before..?

Well no. I invested more time in this game than I would have wanted too. Yet I have done no progress. So I consider this abandonned (from my side)
