Planet Computers : Gemini - Psion Returns

They just made a number of updates today (13th) , they listed the final specs and changes - some good , some bad. Thye have gone for a better SOC and bigger screen. On the flip side they had to use a smaller non removable battery as was said previously. Also NFC has been removed as has the finger print reader.

They are trying to put together an option to have a bigger battery which will result in the device being thicker.

Also, they showed off some photos of their 4 prototypes.

Therefor.com is making the Gemini PDA, they also made a number of the Psion models in the past.

The last bit of the update was that the founder of Psion Computers, Dr David Potter, is joining the Gemini team as Honorary Chairman. He has also invested in Gemini

Glossiness of the screen is still a downer but these look really sexy otherwise.

Well if they turn out to be glossy screens, you can always buy an anti-glare screen protector I suppose. Shouldn't be an issue

I like what they did with the caps lock key. They made some logical choices that I understand, even if I would have done things differently. I didn't know a help key was a thing. Still no any key.

But hey - it has a cool planet key. Yes, we would have probably 'helped' to make the keyboard layout a bit differently. But - compared to what GPD has been generating for keyboard layouts, this one is actually pretty good. Not Pyra good, but better than the average ones these days.

Does Planet Computers have a Gemini forum &/or community portal or anything remotely similar? They're apparently getting community feedback on things somewhere beyond Indiegogo.

In one of those updates there was the implication that they're counting on the Linux community to help refine their Linux dual boot.

That's better! With previous static shots I couldn't put it out of my mind that they'd taken a glossy phone and propped up a Psion keyboard in front of it with a modified home key. Now it looks a lot more real in my mind's eye, and it's impressive how far they've come already. It remains to be seen how they weather the inevitable bumps in the road that the technology gremlins will put up for them though.

So they focused a lot on the keyboard and the device open, but how do you use it as a phone. I certainly wouldn't want to put basically an open laptop by my ear, and when it is closed it has a solid shell so it doesn't look like it will be dual screen.

Speaker & mic slits in the lid. Hold it closed.

Not afraid of awkward positions... I had a n-gage...

Interesting, after I posted I looked further and just assumed it was like the Pyra, not really meant as a phone.

Tbh I would buy it in a second if the outer shell was instead a normal phone screen
