You should check the logs (/tmp/pndrun_*) to see if the emulator is picking up your sub files, it should print when it does.

Grab the sbi file for the games from redump.org, making sure it's for the specific version you have.

Eg, Legacy of kain -

http://redump.org/discs/quicksearch/legacy-of-kain

If your Pal copy is the original SLES-01301, and you open it's page - http://redump.org/disc/1177/

you'll find the sbi subchannels file download in the little blue area at the top. Drop into the same location as your game image, rename it so it's got exactly the same name as your .bin (but obviously keeping the .sbi extension) and it should work - I ripped my own copy of Soul Reaver and did this and it works.

This is a thread for a dedicate discussion of the "SUB file handling issue".

After a lot of trial'n'error, I made a discovery:

Some of my PSX disc images are in the format of a file combination of CCD / CUE / IMG / SUB. (aka CloneCD)

After deactivating .SUB files, by deleting them or renaming their suffix i.e. to ".SUB.OFF", a lot of previously troubled ROMs worked just fine:

Help for users in the short run:

Quit PCSX. Rename your *.sub ROM to *.sub.off. Then start PCSX, and load the ROM again. Your game then may work just fine!

For the long run:

As I don't want to spread wrong information, and could only speculate about the true reasons for this issue, I kindly ask the experts to investigate. After further inspection of the talented developers, maybe this turns out to be indeed a bug of the SUB file handling. And maybe it will be even fixed one day. Thanks what you have achieved so far! This emulator is great!
Driver still crashed for me after I renamed the .sub ROM to .sub.off.  The problem I encountered was described here.

Thank you so much! This did the trick - I'm off to Alexandra to meet Vivi right now.

You are a legend!

Yeah you told us that before.  I thought this SUB thing Mr. Porg suggested here would fix the Driver issue as well as he did mention that it fixed Driver crashing for him.

Driver still crashes for me (at a certain point, AFAIR within a game menu situation),

but the .SUB.OFF renaming solved at least its SUBchannel related issues.
